AFL: Huge games for Demons and Port

There are huge games for both Melbourne and Port Adelaide on Sunday as they chase second place on the AFL ladder.

Collingwood have got top spot wrapped up, but finishing second is massive, and Port Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane are all battling for for the right to do so.

Melbourne simply have to beat Hawthorn to have any chance, but at least it looks as though their place in the top four is secure whatever happens against the Hawks.

Port Adelaide face a tricky trip to the west to take on Fremantle, while in the other game of the day, Western Bulldogs entertain West Coast.

The Bulldogs are holding on to eighth by the skin of their teeth and will be delighted to be playing the AFL’s whipping boys on Sunday.

Consistency the issue for Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are struggling for consistency and have been unable to string back-to-back wins together for some time now.

That trend continued last week when they slipped to a narrow three-point loss at Hawthorn and they need to bounce back against the Eagles.

They should do as West Coast have won just two games all season and lost by 101 points to local rivals Fremantle last weekend.

Not only will the Bulldogs want to win, they will want to go big. And they have done just that in the last three games between the two sides.

They scored 161, 98 and 100 points in those games and are priced at 2.10 to win by 73+ points on Sunday.

Melbourne still have an outside chance of making the top two, but making sure of their top-four spot is also crucial.

They will do that with a win over Hawthorn and need to bounce back following a rare defeat against Carlton last weekend.

It will be far from easy against a Hawks side that have hit form when winning three out of the last five. They have also won the last two against Western Bulldogs and Collingwood.

Melbourne did dismantle Hawthorn by 54 points back in round nine, but the two previous games had been tight and that will probably be the case again.

The Demons can be backed at 7.00 to win by 1-12 points, while Christian Petracca can be backed at 9.00 to boot the first goal.

Port set for tough test

Port Adelaide finally snapped a horror streak that saw them lose four games on the bounce when they beat Greater Western Sydney last week.

The convincing 51-point win should give the Power the boost they need, but they now face a tough test in Perth.

Fremantle have won two of the last three and the one defeat was by just three points against the high-flying Brisbane Lions.

The Dockers have also won the last two games, both played at Optus, so Port have to overcome that hoodoo.
