Australian Racing: Hungarian ready to claim double

There are just the two meetings set to take place on Monday, with action coming from Muswellbrook and Queanbeyan.

Race 3 Muswellbrook

The Hungarian @ 13/10

Race 5 Muswellbrook

Tucson Valley @ 14/5

Race 7 Queanbeyan

Exaggerate @ 5/1

Hungarian to double up

Muswellbrook’s third plays host to the first bet of the day, the 1450m handicap sees a field of ten line up following three scratchings.

Top weight The Hungarian registered a fifth over 1200m at Gosford when racing first up in October and took a step forward to win by a narrow margin in a 1400m maiden at Tamworth the following month.

Successful on a good 3 track at Tamworth the gelding has been freshened up since that triumph. Aaron Bullock, on board on that occasion, retains the ride here.

While being drawn widest of all isn’t ideal the pick raced from off the pace at Tamworth. Employing similar tactics here should negate the draw issue.

Trainer Paul Messara boasts an impressive 41 per cent strike-rate (13/32) here in the last 12 months. His representative looks very capable of helping him improve on that.

Valley for Muswellbrook success

The fifth at Muswellbrook is a competitive looking 1000m handicap. A good 4 track is forecast for the sprint contest, with Casino Lord likely to jump as favourite.

Cody Morgan’s charge delivered a first victory of this spell on his penultimate outing. That triumph came by nearly two lengths in a 1000m event at Tamworth in October.

Encountered a soft 7 track at Tamworth, but has no issue with a sound surface. Came home two lengths second over this course and distance on a good 3 track in November when last in action.

Spelled since then he is well drawn in three, but is expected to find Tucson Valley too strong.

The pick enjoyed a fruitful campaign in 2022 winning five of her eight starts. Those victories included an impressive first up maiden triumph over 1100m at Armidale just under a year ago.

At her best when completing a hat-trick of wins in scoring by three lengths at Coonamble in June. Successful on a good 4 track that day she disappointed over 1175m in a Class 6 at Grafton subsequently.

A wide draw isn’t ideal for the front running daughter of Ace. However she gets on well with Rachael Murray having won on three of her five starts under the rider and can resume with a victory.

Exaggerate can score at Queanbeyan

At Queanbeyan Bring The Rabble is expected to be strongly fancied in the finale.

The three-year-old is one of two runners in the 1000m Benchmark 58 race for trainer Allan Kehoe.

Bring The Rabble has won both starts this spell, with the first of those coming by half-a-length in a 900m maiden here in November. That triumph came on a heavy 9 track.

The gelding found the quicker going no issue when successful on a soft 5 surface in a Class 1 at Coonabarabran subsequently.

Gets a step up in trip here and, having made all for both of those victories, is expected to have competition for the lead.

Both Guiltless and Tiz War Bro are expected to want to front run. The second named completed a double when winning over 900m here on his penultimate start.

With that in mind, this event may well be set up for a horse ridden with more restraint. Veteran performer Exaggerate usually tracks the speed and fits the bill in that regard.

Doug Gorrel’s charge likes this course and distance, having won or placed on three of his five starts over the 1000m distance here.

He delivered solid placed efforts on all four starts since winning by a narrow margin at this level a month ago.

That victory came on a good 3 track over this distance at Narrandera and the son of Exceed And Excel looks up to delivering career win number 11 with claimer Molly Bourke up.
