AFL: In-form GWS ready to cause Pies problems

Collingwood will have to overcome an in-form Greater Western Sydney side on Friday night if they are to keep their premiership dream alive.

The Magpies may have won the minor premiership, but the Giants have been flying for some weeks now and their confidence will be sky-high.

Collingwood are still the hot fancies at 2.45 to go on and win the flag, but first they must get past a GWS side who can be backed at 6.25 to go all the way.

GWS may have suffered a heavy defeat earlier in the season, but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and it should be a different game on this occasion.

The MCG will once again be packed with over 90,000 spectators and all supporters of AFL could be in for a treat once the actions gets underway.

Pies rested and ready to go

Collingwood edged out Melbourne by seven points in the first week of finals and have been able to sit back and relax since then.

They should be well rested and ready to go against a Giants side who have played two finals games already.

Collingwood have been the team of the season so far, winning the minor premiership with ease, but all that will count for nothing unless they can pick up the flag.

The pressure is on to go on and finish the job, but the home support and extra rest could prove to be the difference in the game.

It is a game between two sides that play a very similar style of footy and we could be in for a close, exciting games on Friday night.

The Pies may have won by 65 points towards the start of the season, but it is likely to be much closer in this latest encounter.

Both sides are priced at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points and it is tough to call which way the clash will go.

Collingwood have been boosted by the news Brayden Maynard has been cleared to play and the defender will be key in keeping GWS superstar Toby Greene quiet.

It could be one of the key match-ups on the night and Maynard will need to be on top form.

Giants continue to fly

Greater Western Sydney have come from nowhere to get to this point and the pressure is off, as not many expect them to win.

It should not be that way however as GWS have won nine of the last 11 games and have seen off both Port Adelaide and St Kilda in finals.

The Giants were away from home on both occasions and beat Saints by 34 points, Port by 23, so they will hold no fear heading to the MCG.

Their attacking style has the supporters on the edge of their seats and they look sure to push Collingwood all the way.

Greene will again be crucial for them. He has 64 goals so far this season, including three in the win over Port Adelaide.

He can be backed at 8.50 to boot the first goal, while Jesse Hogan, who kicked four against Port, can be backed at 11.00.

GWS are also boosted by the news they have no fresh injury worries heading into the game and will be able to stick with a familiar line-up.
