Australian Racing: Inspiration eyeing Taree triumph

There’s just the two meetings set to take place on Monday with Quirindi and Taree both set to host races.

Race 1 Quirindi

Arrabbiata @ 2.00

Race 6 Quirindi

Defiant Heart @ 2.50

Race 3 Taree

Inspiration @ 2.30

Heart for Quirindi glory

The penultimate race on the Quirindi card is a 1000m Benchmark 66 handicap event. Acotango is expected to have his supporters for the Cody Morgan stable having already won this spell when victorious over this distance at Tamworth four starts back.

That triumph came when racing at Benchmark 58 level and he has since registered a solid second in a 1200m Class 2 handicap at Tamworth on his penultimate start.

A mid-division finish over 1100m at Hawkesbury followed and top weight DEFIANT HEART is preferred on this occasion.

The selection resumed this campaign with a victory by just over one-and-three-quarter-lengths in a 900m Class 1 handicap at Muswellbrook in March.

The five-year-old showed that softer surfaces were no issue when narrowly losing out in a Class 2 event over 1000m at the same venue on a soft 6 track 11 days later.

A return to the winners’ enclosure followed when successful in a Benchmark 66 event again over 1000m at Scone three weeks ago.

Jockey Benjamin Osmond, on board for all three of the picks starts this spell is again in the saddle and with a good alley four off the rail the pair look up to delivering a third win together.

Arrabbiata to break maiden

The opening contest at Quirindi is an interesting looking 1450 maiden plate. A soft 5 surface is forecast here with ARRABBIATA looking the clear pick on form having finished in the first four on all four previous starts.

The selection is less exposed than many of her rivals with those four efforts including two close seconds on good 4 surfaces.

The most recent of those efforts came in a 12 runner event when partnered by her jockey here Mikayla Weir in a 1400m maiden plate at Tamworth last month.

The form of that contest looks solid enough with the third home Vis I Do placing since while the sixth home Ravalawa won next time out.

Trained by Melanie O’Gorman the selection should have no issues with the soft 5 track forecast here having performed well when a close fourth on a heavy 8 surface at Moree three starts back.

A wide barrier in 14 isn’t ideal but the pick looks capable of overcoming that to break her maiden at the fifth attempt.

Inspiration to triumph at Taree

Taree plays host to a seven race card with the third race on the card a competitive looking 1400m Benchmark 66 handicap set to take place on a soft 6 track.

Media Man delivered his fourth career success when winning by two lengths over 1500m in a Benchmark 58 event at Muswellbrook last time out and is expected to prove popular.

The gelding has performed well at this level in the past but often finds a few too good and has failed to shine in two previous outings at this venue.

With that in mind INSPIRATION, who will jump from barrier one here is preferred having shown good form when winning a Benchmark 58 event at Port Macquarie on her penultimate start.

That effort came on a good 4 track over 1500m and she followed that up with a close up third in the Benchmark 66 Gloucester Cup over this track and trip on a wet track at the start of this month.

Regular pilot Cejay Graham is in the saddle here and the daughter of Duporth looks capable of recording her fourth career success.
