Jet Empress to fly home at Hawkesbury

A good 4 track is forecast for Hawkesbury, with the penultimate race of the day an 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap for fillies & mares.

Mad Darcey is set to shoulder top weight and is expected to feature towards the head of the market on her first start back from a spell.

The mare was contesting stronger races than this last prep including when winning at Randwick in a Benchmark 72 handicap at the start of March.

The six-year-old raced on a good 4 track that day, however, she has failed to score in four subsequent starts.

David Pfieffer’s mare showed improvement in her second barrier trial back registering a third in a 901m event at Canterbury.

Zac Waddick’s two-kilogram claim is a positive here, however, preference is for Mollie Fitzgerald’s mount JET EMPRESS.

The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor broke her maiden when racing on a soft 6 track in a 1000m maiden at Warren in July last year.

While lightly raced since then the five-year-old has managed to visit the winners’ enclosure twice since including at Tamworth last month.

The 6.50 mare triumphed by half-a-length when contesting a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 4 track that day.

Michael Mulholland’s representative went on to place second when contesting a Class 3 handicap over the same track and trip and is a fairly versatile type with regard tactics.

Barrier seven shouldn’t pose any issues here and, arriving in good form, she is selected to record her third win of 2024.

Glens Top Cat to pounce for Mornington win

The finale on Mornington’s eight race card is a 2020m Benchmark 64 handicap expected to take place on a soft 7 track.

Just Berrilliant recorded a placed effort in Group 3 company at Morphettville last prep and he drops to country-level racing here.

The four-year-old lost out by half-a-length when jumping at $81 for the Chairman’s Stakes over 2000m in the previously mentioned Morphettville event in April.

That marked the gelding’s first start out of maiden company, however, he has failed to build on that effort including in two starts this prep.

Ricky Maund’s representative has finished tenth on both starts this prep and steps up in distance following a defeat in a 1630m Benchmark 70 handicap at Flemington last start.

GLENS TOP CAT is preferred in this event, having shown a liking for this venue when losing out by less than a length over 2050m here at the end of March.

The 4.00 selection aced on a good 4 track in a Restricted 58 handicap that day and went on to register wins in his next two starts.

The second of those wins saw him salute by nearly two lengths in a 2447m Benchmark 58 handicap at Moe.

That Moe triumph came on a soft 7 surface and the underfoot conditions expected here are no issue.

The six-year-old delivered his best effort in three subsequent starts when runner-up over 1600m in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Swan Hill first up this prep.

The step back up in distance is a positive in this contest and, with Daniel Stackhouse up, he looks capable of claiming the final race on Mornington’s card.

No Second Thoughts to triumph at Orange

Orange play host to a seven-race card, with the third race of the day a 2100m Benchmark 66 handicap.

NO SECOND THOUGHTS has demonstrated good form this prep and is the selection to deliver a victory.

The filly finished in the first three in each of her first four starts on going ranging from a good 4 at Nowra to a heavy 9 at Muswellbrook and Bathurst.

All four of those starts came over 1400m or shorter and she has shown that she is a versatile type with regards to distance in recent outings.

The 3.40 pick came home nearly two lengths clear of her rivals when saluting in an 1800m Class 1 handicap at Bathurst on her penultimate start.

Bjorn Baker’s representative went on to complete a double stepped up to 2200m for a Benchmark 66 handicap at Dubbo at the end of last month.

The son of So You Think has an inside alley and looks up to completing a hat-trick.
