A-League: Jets rely on Stamatelopoulos to worry Wanderers

Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to push their way back into the A-League top four when they entertain Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

Wanderers continue to have an up and down season, where they win one week, then lose the next.

Such inconsistency is hampering their chances of winning the minor premiership, they are currently six points behind Wellington Phoenix in top spot.

They can be backed at 7.00 to win the minor premiership, but they need to string a run of wins together, starting against the Jets.

Newcastle have won just one game in the last five and are four points adrift of the top six and a place in finals.

They are 5.00 to make it and could also do with the three points at CommBank Stadium.

Wanderers require a response

If Western Sydney’s streak is to continue, they are due a win when they take on the Jets at CommBank Stadium.

The Wanderers were on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller away at Macarthur FC last week, when going down 4-3 in controversial circumstances.

It was unclear whether the ball for the Bulls last-minute winner had crossed the line, but the match officials thought it had and the goal was allowed to stand.

Now the Wanderers need a response and three points against the Jets is a must.

The last two games between the two sides have ended in draws, but both were played in Newcastle - the two previous games at CommBank, have resulted in a Wanderers win.

It has also been a mixed bag as far as goals hitting the back of the net is concerned.

The Wanderers have not been as prolific this season, but do keep it tight at the back, so under 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 2.70.

Lachlan Brook has been in good form having scored in each of his last two games and can be backed at 2.75 to score at anytime.

Jets out to cause an upset

The Jets have won just one game in the last six against the Wanderers and they are not in great form at the moment either.

They did, however, pick up a 1-1 draw against high-flying Melbourne Victory last weekend and should take some confidence from that.

It was on home turf though and they have managed to pick up just the two wins away from Newcastle this season.

One of them was at Wellington Phoenix, so they have shown that they are capable of getting a big result away from home.

And while they have Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, they are always in with a chance. The strike ace has 11 goals so far this season, including the equaliser against Victory last weekend.

He is 2.75 to score at anytime and the Jets will need him to take any chances that fall his way.
