Australian Racing: Jive King eyeing Pinjarra crown

There are five meetings set to take place on Thursday including provincial fixtures from Kembla Grange, Pinjarra and Rockhampton.

Voyage to score at Kembla Grange

The finale at Kembla Grange is an eye-catching contest with a field of 15 set to go to post for the 2000m Class 1 handicap contest.

A good 4 surface is expected with the grade dropping Venetian Blue expected to have her supporters to crack following some solid efforts at metro level this spell.

The filly was stepped up to Listed company following a maiden win over 1600m at Wyong in April delivering a fair seventh despite fading over 1800m in Sunshine Coast’s Gold Coast Bracelet.

Regan Bayliss’ mount has also tackled Group 2 company in recent starts finishing last of 16 in the Group 2 The Roses at Doomben.

The three-year-old jumped at triple figure odds at Doomben but performed better at Benchmark 64 level when third in a 1600m handicap at Warwick farm last month.

Freshened since a disappointing effort over the same trip in a Benchmark 72 event at Randwick the filly has to prove her stamina here and Deep Voyage is preferred.

Matthew Smith’s three-year-old DEEP VOYAGE is preferred on this occasion however.

The gelding showed ability over 1400m and 1600m at this venue earlier this year including when runner-up in a 1400m maiden on a good 4 track three starts back.

A third place finish at Scone followed prior to getting off the mark when sent off a short-priced favourite for a six runner contest at Hawkesbury earlier this month.

The step up to 1800m appeared to suit that day as did the change of tactics with the son of Deep Field making all the running.

Spiccato for maiden success

The third race at Rockhampton is an interesting 1050m maiden handicap event set to take place on a good 4 surface.

Top weight Beyond Star looks likely to jump as favourite following some promising efforts in maiden company in his three starts to date.

The gelding could finish only fifth when ridden from off the pace over 1000m at Colac on debut but came within half-a-length of causing a shock when runner-up at Geelong on his second start.

The three-year-old jumped at odds of $91 for that 1321m when attempting to make all and similar tactics were employed when fourth over 1400m on a soft 5 track at Kerang last time out.

While he has drawn the rail here SPICCATO is preferred on this occasion with Justin P Stanley an eye-catching jockey booking for the mare.

The pick showed good form at Eagle Farm when beaten three lengths into fourth in a set weights maiden contest over 1000m at the start of last August.

The four-year-old has made just one start since that effort with that coming when four lengths seventh over 1200m on a soft 5 track at Sunshine Coast later that month.

Spiccato is making her first start for a new trainer having previously been in the care of Barry Lockwood and she is taken to break her maiden at the fifth attempt.

King to rule at Pinjarra

JIVE KING has shown plenty of ability in his five starts this spell and he looks capable of registering his first victory in the fifth race on the Pinjarra card.

The race in question is a 1600m maiden event with a soft 7 track forecast.

Jive King performed well when fourth in a maiden over 2000m in similar conditions here earlier this month but the return to 1600m here looks likely to suit having faded late on that day.

The gelding had previously placed third over this trip on a good 4 track at Northam at the end of last month and with William Pike a positive jockey booking he is taken to salute at the ninth attempt.
