Australian Racing: Kapsali taken to impress at Taree

There are three meetings scheduled to take place on Tuesday, including at Taree where a heavy 8 surface is expected.

Race 6 Taree

Kapsali @ 4.40

Race 2 Geelong

Lispector @ 2.70

Race 5 Rockhampton

Whitsunday Session @ 2.10

Kapsali tipped for Taree success

The sixth race on an eight-race Taree card is a Benchmark 82 handicap set to take place over 1600m.

Imatruestar has been in good form so far this season, including when winning a 1500m Benchmark 64 handicap at Newcastle in January.

The five-year-old has placed in three of his four subsequent outings, including when losing out narrowly over 1550m at Canterbury three starts back.

The gelding went on to deliver a career best effort when defying odds of $101 to place third in the Group 3 Newcastle Stakes over 1400m at Newcastle on 8th March.

While Grant Jobson’s representative drops in grade he carries top weight here and KAPSALI is the selection in this event.

The pick returned to action with a heavy defeat when contesting a 1315m Benchmark 74 handicap on a good 4 track at Coffs Harbour at the end of December.

The switch to a wet track combined with a step up in distance appeared to suit, with the gelding recording a win at this Benchmark 82 level in a 1500m event on 11th March.

He raced on a heavy 8 track when coming home four lengths clear of his rivals on that occasion and he has a good barrier five off the rail.

The extra distance here should prove no issue with the 4.40 selection having performed well over further in the past.

The five-year-old has shown a liking for this venue including in the Wingham Cup over 1614m here last June and he can go one better than when second that day.

Lispector set to break maiden

Geelong stage an eight-race card with the second race an 1130m maiden contest set to take place on a good 4 track.

Xavier is expected to prove popular with punters, having finished runner-up on both starts this prep.

The gelding lost out by a narrow margin when runner-up in a 1000m maiden at Terang when racing on a good 4 track first up.

The five-year-old appeared to have no issues with the step up in distance when filling the same position over 1200m at Echuca earlier this month.

However, the Mick Price & Michael Kent-trained LISPECTOR is preferred on this occasion.

The 2.70 filly showed good form when beaten by less than two lengths into fifth over 1147m on a heavy 8 surface at this venue in June last year.

The daughter of Wrote resumed with a good three-length second over 1103m when making her first start on a sound surface at Kyneton at the start of last month.

The drop back in distance is expected to suit here, having failed to shine when tenth in a 1200m maiden at Terang subsequently.

The selection has been freshened since that Terang effort and Celine Gaudray is taken to steer the four-year-old to victory.

Session to salute at Rockhampton

The fifth race at Rockhampton is a 1050m Class 1 handicap for three-year-olds, with WHITSUNDAY SESSION expected to prove hard to beat.

Trained by Clinton Taylor, the filly showed plenty of ability in winning two 900m barrier trials at this venue last month.

The 2.10 youngster went on to make the perfect start to her racing career when delivering a one-and-a-half-length victory in an 1100m maiden here earlier this month.

The daughter of Whittington won on a soft 5 track that day and, while she lacks the experience of some of her rivals, she looks up to maintaining her unbeaten record.
