Australian Racing: Kenning charge to Make It Happen

There are five meetings on the schedule for Friday, including a provincial fixture at Townsville.

Race 4 Townsville

Make It Happen @ 4.00

Race 6 Lismore

Miss Boom Boom @ 3.60

Race 6 Donald

Field Of Flutes @ 4.20

Townsville success awaits Kenning chance

The fourth race on the Townsville card takes the eye with the Restricted 55 handicap having attracted a field of 13.

Lady Damus is expected to have her supporters for the Stephen Massingham stable, having delivered solid efforts in both starts this spell.

The most recent of those saw the filly placed third when beaten a length in a Benchmark 55 handicap over 1000m on a good 4 track here June 27th.

The three-year-old looks ready for this step up in distance having finished strongly on that occasion while the soft 5 surface expected here is no issue.

However, preference is for the Bill Kenning-trained MAKE IT HAPPEN, another who has been in good form this time around.

The Kenning stable can boast an impressive 31% strike-rate (15/48) at this venue so far this campaign, with their representative contributing a maiden win here last time out.

Racing from the front on that occasion the 4.00 pick delivered a victory by just over three-quarters-of-a-length on a soft 6 surface.

Prior to that the selection had been beaten a length into second over 1000m here on a good 4 track when racing first up last month.

The filly is a versatile type with regards tactics and, with Adrian Layt up, she is selected to register her first victory against previous winners.

Miss set to score at Lismore

Lismore are set to stage a nine-race card, with the sixth race a competitive looking Benchmark 58 handicap for fillies and mares.

A soft 5 surface is expected, with MISS BOOM BOOM an eye-catching runner as one of four on the card for top handler Annabel Neasham.

The Neasham stable have had a good time of it at this venue this season and their representative returns from a spell having shown good form earlier this year.

Placed in three consecutive maiden contests in January and February, the 3.60 pick justified short-price favouritism when successful by half-a-length over 1300m at Ballina.

That Ballina triumph came on a heavy 9 track, however, it’s notable that the selection has performer well on the soft 5 going forecast here.

Ben Looker, on board on that occasion, retains the ride here, having made all in that Ballina contest.

The filly usually races close to the pace and dropping back in trip is taken to resume with a victory.

Flutes to find the right tune

Harbin is expected to have his supporters ahead of the sixth race on the Donald card.

The 1002m Benchmark 70 handicap sees the four-year-old gelding make his reappearance, having been off the track since a sixth over 1200m in a Benchmark 70 event at Moonee Valley in February.

Trained by Lindsey Smith, the four-year-old showed good form prior to that Moonee Valley effort, including when runner-up on a soft 7 track at Terang when racing first up.

FIELD OF FLUTES is race-fit here, however, and is selected to register his second win this spell.

The 4.20 selection showed good form and a liking for wet tracks when scoring by nearly one-and-a-half-lengths in a three-runner 1000m Benchmark 70 contest at Warrnambool at the start of May.

Trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, the son of Deep Field delivered another solid effort over the 1000m distance when four lengths third at Werribee June 8th.

The four-year-old contested a jump-out against Group 1 winner Coolangatta among others at Flemington last month and looks capable of providing Sarah Field with a winner on her first ride.
