Australian Racing: Laughing Buddha can have fun at Kalgoorlie

There are five meetings set to take place on Friday including at Ipswich who are set to play host to a nine-race card.

Race 7 Ipswich

Cabrinella @ 4.60

Race 5 Taree

Binkou @ 2.70

Race 3 Kalgoorlie

Laughing Buddha @ 1.40

Cabrinella for Ipswich success

The seventh race on the Ipswich card is the most valuable race at the Queensland venue.

The 800m Benchmark 62 handicap is worth a total of $50,000 and has attracted 16 declarations with Szabo expected to prove popular with punters.

The filly showed good form in winning her first two starts over this course and distance, including when taking out a handicap by just under half-a-length on a soft 5 track back in March.

The combination of the step up to Listed company and the extra distance has seemingly been against the three-year-old since, particularly when fading over 1200m at Doomben in May.

That effort came in the Bill Carter Stakes, a race for which the daughter of Brave Smash jumped at triple figure odds for.

The drop back to 800m here is a big positive but it can prove profitable to look elsewhere with CABRINELLA preferred on this occasion.

The Rochelle Pereira-trained mare has shown good form over this course and distance in the past, including when winning by half-a-length in a Class 2 handicap here in February.

The four-year-old has placed twice over track and trip since and comes into this event on the back of a third-place finish in a Benchmark 65 handicap at Dalby.

The good 4 track is the filly’s favourite, while jockey Emily Lang takes a valuable three kilograms off the pick’s back.

Barrier eight should prove no issue for the selection who looks capable of saluting for the fourth time in her career.

Binkou to salute at Taree

The fifth race at Taree is an interesting affair with Fay’s Angels expected to have her supporters in the 2000m Benchmark 58 handicap.

The four-year-old caught the eye when coming from off the pace to be beaten by just under six lengths in an 1800m Class 3 set weights contest at Rosehill earlier this month.

The drop to provincial level racing is a positive here, however, she is expected to find top weight BINKOU too strong on his occasion.

The selection delivered a good third in a 1415m Class 3 handicap held on a soft 5 surface at Coffs Harbour on his penultimate outing.

The gelding has gone well on a sound surface in the past and as such should have no issues with the going here.

The pick's latest effort came in the previously mentioned Rosehill contest when finishing ninth but he looks up to reversing that form on his first attempt at this distance.

Buddha to complete hat-trick

Course regular LAUGHING BUDDHA heads into the third race at Kalgoorlie in good form having registered victories in each of his last two starts at the Western Australia venue.

Those triumphs included a one-and-a-half-length success in a Benchmark 61+ handicap over 1760m at the end of last month and he should find this Benchmark 59+ handicap slightly easier.

Chris Parnham’s mount shapes as if he will have no issue with the 2100m distance he tackles for the first time here, while barrier two is a further positive.

The pick is a versatile type with regards tactics though it’s notable that he has been ridden from mid-division in recent starts and he is selected to deliver a fourth win in 11 career starts.
