Neasham’s Fly to score in Slipper

The most valuable race on the card, the 1200m Group 1 Golden Slipper is set to see a field of 16 go to post following Facile’s scratching.

Trainer James Cummings saddled In Secret to Group 1 glory last week and looks to hold strong claims of providing the winner here with his Cylinder expected to start favourite.

The son of Exceed and Excel tasted defeat in his first two starts finishing runner-up on each occasion.

Spelled following a second to Little Brose who re-opposes here in a 1000m contest at Caulfield in November he is unbeaten in two starts since returning to action.

Both of those efforts have come at Group 2 level including over this trip in the 1200m Todman Stakes on a soft 6 track earlier this month.

The good going should prove no issue here having won on a good 4 track at this venue first up.

While the previously mentioned Little Brose looks to hold strong claims preference is for the unbeaten filly Learning To Fly.

Trained by Annabel Neasham the youngster took her unbeaten record to three when saluting by a narrow margin in the Group 2 Resling Stakes over this trip at Randwick on March 4.

Prior to that the pick had impressed when defying a wide barrier to deliver an off the pace success in the valuable 1100m Inglis Millennium over 1100m at the same venue.

Regular jockey Chad Schofield is in the saddle here and with a good alley four off the rail the daughter of US Triple Crown winner Justify is taken to maintain her unbeaten record. The most valuable race on the card, the 1200m Group 1 Golden Slipper is set to see a field of 16 go to post following Facile’s scratching.

Dubai for Ranvet success

The sixth race at Rosehill is the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m.

Gold Trip, Mo’unga and Dubai Honour are vying for favouritism ahead of the 2000m contest.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup hero Gold Trip was weak in the market ahead of his return to action in the Group 2 Peter Young over 1800m at Sandown Lakeside last month.

The six-year-old acquitted himself well on that occasion however finishing runner-up in a race that he is expected to improve for.

The step up to 2000m is in his favour but he is expected to find that European raider Dubai Honour has too much for him over this distance.

Trainer William Haggas has had plenty of success with his southern hemisphere runners and his galloper comes into this fresh having made his latest start in October.

That effort came when a respectable sixth in the Group 1 Champion Stakes over 2000m on a good-to-soft track at Ascot.

Ryan Moore, over to ride Shinzo for his retained owners in the Slipper, is a positive jockey booking and his mount can provide Haggas with a second Ranvet win having won it with Addeybb in 2020.

Asfoora for Galaxy glory

The presence of Eduardo in the ninth race of the day, the Group 1 Galaxy over 1100m, sees the majority of the field running off low weights.

Uncommon James is expected to start favourite following a length victory in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate over this distance at Sandown Lakeside.

The four-year-old defied a wide barrier that day but has to concede an extra three kilograms to the third home in that race Asfoora on this occasion.

With that in mind Henry Dwyer’s filly is preferred following a length defeat in the previously mentioned contest.

The daughter of Flying Artie suffered both her first defeat at this 1100m trip that day and her first defeat when racing first up.

The winner of the Group 3 Furphy Sprint over this trip at Flemington last October Jye McNeil retains the ride and the pair look capable of saluting from barrier five.
