AFL: Lions need to down Cowboys in Adelaide

Brisbane are still searching for their first win of the new AFL season as they prepare to take on North Melbourne in Gather Round.

The Lions would love to be on home soil at the Gabba, but if they are to get their first win, they will have to do it at the Norwood Oval in Adelaide.

Brisbane are 13.00 to win the grand final, but if they are to achieve their goal, the revival has to start on Friday evening.

The second game of the night sees eighth take on ninth when Port Adelaide entertain Essendon at the Adelaide Oval.

Port, who are 11.00 to win the flag, suffered a narrow loss against Melbourne at the same venue last week, and need to respond.

The Bombers should be feeling good after a four-point win over big rivals St Kilda last week.

Essendon can be backed at 3.50 to make the eight and play finals this season.

Lions desperate for the win

. What: Brisbane Lions v North Melbourne Cowboys
. Where: Norwood Oval, Adelaide
. When: 17:10, Friday 5th April 2024
. How to watch: Foxtel, Kayo,
. Odds: Brisbane 1.13, North Melbourne 6.00

Brisbane suffered their third straight defeat when losing by 20 points to Collingwood last week and nothing other than a win against the Kangaroos will do.

The Lions have won the last six meetings against North Melbourne, including a massive 108-point win in 2023.

Despite being far from their best so far this season, Brisbane can still be backed at 6.50 to win by 73+ points.

To do it, they will need to be sharper in front of goal after missing a host of chances against Collingwood.

Joe Daniher could be the main man up top and is priced at 9.00 to boot the first goal of the game, or 1.04 to score at anytime.

Nick Larkey will be big danger for North Melbourne and he is also 9.00 to boot the first goal of the game.

Power look to home comforts

. What: Port Adelaide Power v Essendon Bombers
. Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
. When: 20:00, Friday 5th April 2024
. How to watch: Foxtel, Kayo, Channel 7
. Odds: Port Adelaide 1.28, Essendon 3.75

Port Adelaide will be keen to get back on track after losing to Melbourne in a game that could have gone either way last week.

The Power had more inside 50s than the Demons, but did not take their chances, and will need to do better against the Bombers.

Charlie Dixon is 10.00 to get Port off to a great start by kicking the first goal of the game, or 1.07 to score at anytime.

Port Adelaide have dominated against Essendon since 2018, winning all seven meetings, but the last two games have been very close, with Port winning by four and then five points.

Another tight one with Port winning by 1-12 points can be backed at 6.50.

Essendon showed great spirit when coming from behind to beat St Kilda, and Jake Stringer was one of the stars of the show.

Stringer is 11.00 to step up again by scoring the first goal of the game.
