Australian Racing: Little Eagle can swoop to victory

There are eight meetings set to take place on Friday including a metro fixture at Moonee Valley.

Race 5 Moonee Valley

Little Eagle @ 3.00

Race 7 Warrnambool

Kev’s Girl @ 2.30

Race 7 Taree

Holstein @ 4.20

Eagle to stay unbeaten

The fifth race on the Moonee Valley card is an interesting Benchmark 65 handicap set to take place over 1600m on a soft 6 surface.

There are a number of lightly-raced individuals towards the head of the market here including the four-year-old North Channel who placed second on his first two starts.

Trained by Ben, JD & Will Hayes, the gelding has registered victories in each of his last two starts including when saluting by two lengths in a similar race to this at Swan Hill.

That Swan Hill triumph came on a good 3 track and while Celine Gaudray’s mount is respected here, preference is for the unbeaten LITTLE EAGLE.

Trained by Patrick Payne, the filly debuted with an impressive win over 1300m at Wangaratta on good 4 track.

However, it’s notable that both of the selection's subsequent successes have come with give in the ground, including when saluting by nearly two-and-a-half lengths in a 1425m contest.

Laura Lafferty takes a valuable two kilograms off the filly’s back and, while kept to wet tracks of late, she looks capable of maintaining her unbeaten record switched to a sound surface.

Girl to return with victory

Easy Jay looks sure to have his supporters ahead of the penultimate race on the eight-race card at Warrnambool.

The gelding has a good barrier three off the rail and has delivered solid efforts in both starts this spell.

The four-year-old registered a solid sixth when beaten less than four lengths in a similar race to this here on 25th September and, while improvement is likely, he is expected to find KEV’S GIRL too strong.

Trained by Adam Chambers, the mare won over this distance in a Benchmark 64 handicap on a soft 7 track at Terang in April last year.

The pick stepped up to metro level racing, subsequently finishing runner-up over this distance in a Benchmark 70 contest held on a good 4 track at Moonee Valley in December.

While the mare failed to finish in the first three in her three subsequent starts, she has been spelled since her latest fifth at Moonee Valley and tackles an easier contest here.

Jockey Jaylah Kennedy has an inside barrier here and she looks up to partnering the daughter of Star Witness to victory.

Holstein for Port triumph

The $200,000 Port Macquarie Cup over 2000m is the feature race at Taree with a soft 5 track expected for the big race.

Superium looks likely to jump as favourite having delivered a third-place finish in the Group 3 Sandown Stakes over 1500m on the Hillside course at Sandown at the start of the month.

While the veteran brings strong form into this contest, he has been kept away from wet tracks of late and HOLSTEIN is the pick on this occasion.

While the selection is another who has been avoiding wet tracks, he did break his maiden on a soft surface and has demonstrated some solid winning form this spell.

The pick completed a double when winning by a narrow margin over 1800m at Sunshine Coast three starts and has acquitted himself well twice subsequently.

The five-year-old placed third in the 2110m Lismore Cup when last in action on 21st September and with a good barrier here, is selected to deliver a victory.
