LIV Golf: Chicago Invitational preview

Australia’s Cameron Smith has one last chance to avoid finishing the 2024 LIV Golf season empty-handed when he heads to Chicago.

Smith had an impressive 2023 season, winning on two occasions, but he has yet to finish top of the leaderboard in this campaign.

The season has not been a complete disaster, and Smith still has an outside chance of finishing third in the individual championship.

However he would love to finish the season with a win and he has a great chance of being in the mix when the tournament gets underway on Thursday.

Let’s take a look ahead to LIV Golf Chicago.

Rahm and Niemann battle for title

Heading into LIV Golf Chicago, Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann are the only two players who have a chance of winning the individual title in 2024.

Rahm has been outstanding in his first season of LIV Golf, winning one tournament and finishing in the top 10 of the 11 events he has played in.

The Legion XIII captain has amassed 195.7 points so far and another victory in Chicago will guarantee him the individual title.

Rahm is priced at 6.50 to win LIV Golf Chicago.

Rahm is just 2.97 points ahead of Niemann, so as long as he finishes ahead or tied with his rival in Chicago, it will be enough.

Niemann needs to win and he has shown he can get the job done already in 2024.

The Torque GC captain won two of the opening three events in 2024, and now needs to finish on a high.

He can be backed at 12.00 to win in Chicago.

Smith out to break deadlock

Australia’s Cameron Smith may have had a stellar 2023, but he is in danger of finishing the 2024 LIV Golf season without a win.

Smith finished second in the individual standings when picking up two wins in 2023, but is out of the running this season.

There is a mathematical chance he could finish third, but it looks highly unlikely.

Even so, the Queenslander will be desperate to pick up the win and can be backed at 14.00 to do just that.

DeChambeau searching for a win

Just like Smith, Bryson DeChambeau has yet to win a LIV Golf tournament in 2024, but Chicago represents a big opportunity for him.

The American can be backed at 9.00, and is seen as the main threat to Rahm.

Whatever happens, 2024 has still been a huge success for DeChambeau after he won the US Open title earlier in the year.
