Australian Racing: Luna Eagle can soar to victory

There are three meetings set to take place on Tuesday, with action from Bendigo, plus two New South Wales meetings at Corowa and Narromine.

Race 10 Bendigo

Acierto @ 6.50

Race 5 Corowa

Count Nicholas @ 5.00

Race 5 Narromine

Luna Eagle @ 4.80

Acierto for first up success

The finale at Bendigo is an interesting 1300m Class 1 handicap contest set to take place on a good 4 surface.

The Pat Carey & Harris Walker team send out Rich Lover here, with the blinkered runner having finished runner-up on two of his four starts since breaking his maiden in August.

That maiden success saw the four-year-old come home nearly five-lengths clear of his rivals in an 1100m contest on the synthetic track at Pakenham.

The gelding will jump from next to the rail here following a close second in a Restricted 64 handicap over 1100m at Ballarat on 15th November and he is expected to have his supporters here.

However, ACIERTO is preferred here from barrier nine, with the gelding having shown plenty of ability in his three starts at two last season.

Those efforts include a two-and-a-half-length victory over 1500m on a soft 6 surface at Mornington at the end of May.

Trained by Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young, the pick faced just two rivals that day and went on to perform with credit when five-lengths fifth of six over 1600m at Flemington subsequently.

The selection gets a drop in grade and trip here, having contested the Listed Taj Rossi Final when racing at Flemington and he looks up to resuming with a victory.

Nicholas to score at Corowa

Corowa stage a seven-race card with the fifth of the day a competitive looking 1000m Benchmark 66 handicap.

Oh No Mikki returned from a spell with a half-length success in a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap at Wagga in October.

The five-year-old finished strongly from off the pace on a good 3 surface on that occasion and jockey Nick Souquet is expected to employ similar tactics here.

While the gelding has registered respectable efforts in two previous outings here, he steps up in grade here and looks opposable in this contest.

COUNT NICHOLAS will jump from barrier three and he is a winner already from three starts this spell.

That victory came by a narrow margin when taking out a Benchmark 58 handicap over this distance at Ballarat a month ago.

Trained by Ben, JD & Will Hayes, the gelding overraced when beaten one-and-a-half-lengths into fourth over the same trip on a soft 5 track, when racing in a Benchmark 64 event at Tatura next time.

Mark Pegus’ mount is a versatile type tactics-wise, having performed well from the front and when ridden with restraint in the past and he is selected to salute on his first start at this track.

Eagle to fly at Narromine

A field of 16 have been declared for the fifth race of the day at Narromine with the race in question a 1300m Benchmark 58 handicap event.

Jockey Clayton Gallagher boasts an impressive 37% strike-rate (17/46) in the last 30 days and his mount LUNA EAGLE takes the eye from a wide barrier.

The pick has registered some good efforts in defeat since returning from well over a year off the track back in September, including when third over 1400m at Warren last month.

The five-year-old was beaten less than a length in a Benchmark 58 handicap that day and followed it up with a fourth in a Class 1 handicap over the same trip at Mudgee last Friday.

Brett Robb’s mare makes a quicker reappearance here and looks up to registering her second career win.
