Australian Racing: Magical Slipper can score at Corowa

There are four meetings set to take place on Tuesday including at Narromine who are set to stage an eight-race card.

Race 8 Narromine

Charlotting @ 7.00

Race 6 Corowa

Magical Slipper @ 4.00

Race 2 Mackay

Baby Guinness @ 2.40

Charlotting for Narromine victory

The concluding race on the Narromine card is an interesting 1300m handicap contest.

A good 4 track is expected for the contest with Invahir and Simply Extravagant vying for favouritism.

Invahir has shown good form since teaming up with jockey Wendy Peel, with the pair winning twice and placing second once from their first three starts together.

The pair completed a double when winning by two lengths over 1400m at Forbes but found the step up to metro level in Sydney too much, when down the field at Rosehill subsequently.

Simply Xtravagant lost out by just over a length when third over 1200m here on her penultimate start but made amends when winning over this trip at Dubbo last time out.

Brett Robb’s mare has the track and trip to suit but the pair may find CHARLOTTING and jockey Aaron Bullock too strong here.

The selection has placed in the first three in seven of her 11 starts since delivering a head victory over 1600m at this venue in April.

That victory came in a Class 1 contest and, while the pick drops in distance here, she has performed well over 1400m in the past.

The four-year-old has a wide barrier here but looks capable of overcoming that with Dubbo-based handler Michael Lunn boasting a 30% strike-rate (3/10) here in the last 12 months.

Slipper to score

The penultimate race on Corowa’s seven-race card is a 1300m Benchmark 58 handicap.

The race, restricted to fillies & mares, has attracted a field of 13 with Smokin’ Cod expected to jump as favourite.

The filly showed solid form in her last spell winning once and placing three times from her five starts.

That victory came when contesting a 1400m Class 1 handicap on a soft 6 track at Albury in March.

The four-year-old should have no issue with the quicker going here and performed well when fourth in a 1200m Class 3 at Wagga when racing first up this time around.

A wide alley is expected to prove more of an issue here however, and MAGICAL SLIPPER is preferred for the Michael Travers stable.

Nick Heywood’s mount finished in mid-division in a Class 2 handicap over 1200m at this venue at the end of July but returned to form at Gundagai last time out.

That Gundagai effort saw the pick lose out by half-a-length when racing at this Benchmark 58 level in a 1400m handicap on a heavy 10 track.

The good 4 track here should prove no issue having won in similar conditions over this trip in a higher grade at Cranbourne in April and she is taken to salute here.

Guinness to strike at Mackay

There’s a seven-race card at Mackay with BABY GUINNESS an interesting runner in the second race of the day, a 1560m Restricted 55 handicap.

The four-year-old has been racing in much stronger races of late, including when seventh in a 14-runner renewal of the Townsville Guineas over 1609m on her penultimate start.

The pick was beaten less than four lengths on that occasion and that was again the case when the daughter of Heroic Valour came home sixth in Cairns’ Daintree Guineas on 26th August..

That race is producing winners with the third, seventh and eighth all delivering subsequent victories.

The selection has a good barrier here and dropping in grade is expected to prove hard to beat for the Lindsay Hatch stable.
