NRL: Manly target Trbo win

The Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers will still have plenty to play for on Friday night, despite the fact neither can make the top eight.

It has been a bitterly disappointing season for both clubs, who had high hopes for 2023 after making changes to their coaching staff.

Manly flirted with the top eight at one point under the guidance of new coach Anthony Seibold, but the Tigers new regime led by Tim Sheens failed to deliver.

Sheens has since stepped aside with Benji Marshall taking the reins earlier than expected, and now they must beat the Sea Eagles to have any chance of avoiding the wooden spoon.

Manly will not be rolling over though. They will be honouring star forward Jake Trbojevic and will be keen to finish the season with a win.

Trbojevic reaches milestone

Jake Trbojevic is set to make his 200th appearance in both the NRL and for the Sea Eagles so his team-mates will be keen to put on a show.

The Sea Eagles sit just outside of the top eight with just one game remaining and had results gone their way in recent weeks, they could still be in the mix for finals.

A run of three straight defeats against the Roosters, Panthers and Warriors put an end to their finals hopes.

They showed what they are capable of with a 42-24 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday and will be keen to back that up with another win against the Tigers.

Manly have a great record against the Tigers when winning six of the past seven meetings between the two sides, including the match earlier in the season.

The Sea Eagles won that game 22-16 and can be backed at 3.10 to win by 1-12 points on this occasion as well.

Skipper Daly Cherry-Evans also loves playing against the Tigers, scoring 14 tries against them in the last 19 games, and is sure to a huge threat once again.

Reuben Garrick is another key player for Manly and there is a chance he could make a return to the side after recovering from a back injury.

Tigers searching for big win

The Tigers remain rock bottom of the ladder but there is an outside chance they could jump above the Dragons if they pick up a big win.

The Dragons would also have to lose heavily to the Newcastle Knights, which is not beyond the realms of possibility considering the contrasting form of both sides.

But first of all the Tigers have to do their job and that is a huge ask in itself.

They have won just four games all season and have won just three games out of 16 at 4 Pines Park.

Not only that they will have to do it without Luke Brooks, who has a calf injury, while Charlie Staines is out with a hamstring problem.

The Tigers lost 32-8 away at the Roosters on Saturday, but did beat the Dolphins by a point in the game before.

There was not much in it when they lost to the Raiders and Warriors either, so there have been some encouraging signs for Marshall in recent weeks.
