Big Bash preview: Melbourne Stars v Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers will hope to get their Big Bash League campaign properly underway when they take on Melbourne Stars on Wednesday.

The Scorchers' opening game against Melbourne Renegades was abandoned after just 6.5 overs due to a dangerous pitch at GMHBA Stadium.

They will be hoping for better luck in Melbourne on Wednesday, with the game being played at the MCG.

The Scorchers are gunning for their third Big Bash League title in a row and are priced at 3.75 to do it.

Stars hit by Maxwell blow

Melbourne Stars have been hit by the news that Glenn Maxwell is injured and will be unable to face the Scorchers on Wednesday evening.

Maxwell picked up a forearm injury while batting against Brisbane Heat in their opening match and is unable to play a part at the MCG.

Losing the batting and bowling skills of Maxwell is a big blow to the Stars as they look to bounce back from the 103-run loss against Brisbane.

Maxwell made 23 off 14 deliveries in that game, while Hilton Cartwright top-scored with 33.

Cartwright is priced at 8.00 to be Team - Top Batter once again, while fellow all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is available at 4.75.

The Stars managed just 111 after being bowled out in 11.1 overs and they will need a much-improved display against the Scorchers.

Meanwhile, there is another big concern for the Stars, with the news that star bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile is also set to miss out.

Coulter-Nile requires scans on a calf issue picked up against Brisbane and the Stars will be praying it is nothing long-term.

In his absence, Joel Paris can be backed at 4.75 to be Team - Top Bowler.

Same again for Scorchers

The Scorchers have no selection issues heading into the game against the Stars, but they will be hoping to get off to a better start.

Before the Renegades game was abandoned, they did lose the wickets of Steve Eskinazi for 0 and Cooper Connolly for just six.

Aaron Hardie was just starting to settle the ship with 20, while Josh Inglis was alongside him on six when they had to go off.

The depth of the Scorchers batting line-up is second to none and Hardie can be backed at 4.33 to be Team - Top Batter, with Inglis available at 3.75.

They are also blessed with an embarrassment of riches in their bowling attack, who will be itching to get going after missing out against the Renegades.

Jhye Richardson is priced at 3.40 to be Team - Top Bowler, but Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye will be pushing him hard.
