A-League: Melbourne City chasing maiden win

Melbourne City have a battle on their hands to avoid two straight defeats when they travel to Adelaide United on Sunday.

City are licking their wounds following an opening day defeat against Western United, and they could not have asked for a harder game than Adelaide away next up.

Adelaide thrashed Central Coast 3-0, and the Mariners will be keen to respond when they entertain Macarthur in the opening game of the day.

Melbourne Victory put an early marker down with a 2-0 win away at Sydney FC but must back it up with a home win over Newcastle Jets.

Victory can be backed at 8.00 to win the minor premiership in the season ahead.

The Mariners got their title defence off to a shocking start as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat against Adelaide United in week 1.

Adelaide will be up there come the end of the season but it was a bad result nonetheless and three points against Macarthur is a must.

Central Coast have won three of the last four games between the two sides, including a 4-1 win in this fixture last season.

The last five games between the two sides have been high-scoring with five, three, five, six and six goals scored. Over 2.5 goals in this game can be backed at 1.47.

Dylan Wenzel-Halls is likely to be the main threat for the Mariners and is 2.10 to score anytime.

Victory put in a professional performance with a 2-0 win over Sydney FC in the Big Blue last weekend and need to back it up against the Jets.

Bruno Fornaroli and new boy Zinedine Machach got the goals and are priced at 2.20 and 4.33 respectively, to score anytime on Sunday.

Newcastle fought out a 2-2 draw away at Perth Glory and have not lost in the last two games against Victory.

They also picked up a 2-1 win in Melbourne back in 2022, and can be backed at 13.00 to do the same on Sunday.

The games between the two sides are usually high-scoring and over 2.5 goals is available at 1.57.

12 goals have been scored in the last two meetings between these two sides, and another goal-fest could be on the cards.

Adelaide won this fixture 4-2 last season, while the return clash in Melbourne finished 3-3. Over 2.5 goals on Sunday can be backed at 1.53.

Melbourne City have failed to win in their last three visits to Coopers Stadium, but could do with one after the loss to Western United.

The pitch will be loaded with attacking talent, with plenty of goal threats in both sides.

City’s Jamie MacLaren wins the golden boot on a regular basis and can be backed at 4.00 to score the first goal, while Nestory Irankunda will be a threat for Adelaide.

The youngster is available at 8.00 to strike first.
