Australian Racing: Metrical measures up at Pakenham

There are four meetings set to take place on Thursday including at Pakenham, where an eight-race card is scheduled.

Race 7 Pakenham

Metrical @ 4.00

Race 5 Gosford

Impulsivity @ 4.40

Race 6 Pinjarra

Prince Ragnar @ 4.60

Metrical to defy top weight

The penultimate race on Pakenham’s card is a 1600m Restricted 64 handicap set to take place on a heavy 8 track.

The Creator is expected to have his supporters for the Mick Price & Michael Kent team, with the gelding having performed well at metro level earlier this season.

Those metro efforts saw him place twice at Sandown, including when runner-up on the Lakeside course in a 1600m Benchmark 64 handicap at the end of August.

The four-year-old resumed with a sixth over 1400m at Pakenham and, while expected to have improved for that effort, he is likely to find at least one too good.

METRICAL boasts more experience having made 13 starts to date and he is a proven wet track performer, having broken his maiden on a heavy 8 track at Bendigo.

That Bendigo success saw him triumph by over a length in a 1300m contest at the end of June last year.

The 4.00 selection has recorded some good efforts since including when third back at Bendigo in a Benchmark 64 handicap on a soft 6 track last August.

The son of Time Test recorded his second career win when registering a victory at Ballarat when racing second up this prep.

Successful over 1400m on a good 3 track on that occasion he steps up in distance following a fifth over 1400m in a Benchmark 64 handicap here last month.

Michael Moroney’s representative has a good barrier in three here and looks capable of registering a victory under Blake Shinn.

Impulsivity set for Gosford glory

The fifth race at Gosford takes the eye, with the 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap restricted to fillies & mares set to see a big field go to post.

Cross Your Heart gained plenty of experience prior to debuting, including when winning two barrier trials at Randwick and she is expected to prove popular with punters.

The filly broke her maiden at the second attempt when contesting an 1100m contest on a soft 7 at Wyong in February.

The three-year-old duly followed up switched to a good 4 track for a Benchmark 64 handicap over 1200m at the same venue.

Anna Roper takes a valuable two kilograms off the top weights back, however, preference is for IMPULSIVITY, who is another to have arrive here in good form.

Trained by Peter & Paul Snowden, the youngster broke her maiden when racing first up this prep in a 1000m maiden held on a good 3 track at Kembla Grange in January.

A solid third when racing on a wet track in a 1000m Class 1 handicap at Wyong followed the next month, prior to a Newcastle success on 8th March.

The 4.40 selection was successful by over half-a-length on her first attempt at the 1200m distance at Newcastle.

The return to a good 4 track also appeared to suit and any softening of the ground would be a negative with regards to her chances of completing a double.

Prince to rule at Pinjarra

Apprentice Chanel Cooper has ridden PRINCE RAGNAR on each of his last two starts and they team up once more in the sixth race of the day at Pinjarra Scarpside.

The pair lost out by a narrow margin when runner-up in an 1100m Benchmark 58+ handicap at Albany at the end of February.

However, they made amends for that defeat when triumphing by one-and-a-half-lengths in a Class 5 handicap over this distance on the main course here on 7th March.

The 4.60 selection made all on that occasion and jumping from barrier five is taken to complete a double under similar tactics.
