The Might and Power Stakes was first raced in 1886 and was then known as the Caulfield Stakes.

Isonomy was the very first winner of the race.

The Might and Power Stakes was originally a Principal Race and remained that way until 1978 when it was upgraded to Group 1 status.

It was originally raced over 1800m, but was increased to 2000m in 1972 and has remained that way ever since.

Alligator Blood won the 2023 edition of the Might and Power Stakes for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and jockey Tim Clark.

Some big names have won the Might and Power Stakes, with super mare Winx winning the 2016 edition of the race.

Might and Power, who the race is now named after, won the 1998 edition.
