Milan-San Remo 2025: Dates, odds and key details

Milan-San Remo is one of the five big ‘Monuments’ on the UCI World Tour calendar and takes place in March each year.

Milan-San Remo is the longest professional one-day race in cycling at 298km, but much of that is pan flat.

It is a race that is steeped in history, and one dominated by Eddie Merckx over a 10-year spell in the 1960s and 1970s.

It usually ends in a bunch sprint, and looks sure to be targeted by Tadej Pogacar, who has yet to win the race, in 2025.

Here is everything you need to know about Milan-San Remo.

Milan-San Remo 2025 dates

Milan-San Remo is the one of the five ‘Monuments’ raced throughout the season, and is always first on the calendar.

The 2025 edition of Milan-San Remo will take place on Sunday 23rd May.

Milan-San Remo 2025 route

As the name of the race would suggest, it begins in Milan and ends in San-Remo, which is a seaside resort on the Italian Riviera.

Raced over 298km, Milan-San Remo is one of the flattest races in professional cycling, with the first climb of the day coming 140km in.

The most famous climbs are the Cipressa, which is 22km away from the finish, and the Poggio di Sanremo, which is 5.4km from the finish.

It is on the Poggio where the race really bursts into life, and is often decided.

Whoever can get to the top first with a gap, then has a fast curvy descent to negotiate before hitting the finish line on the Via Roma.

Milan-San Remo 2025 how to watch

For Australian viewers, Milan-San Remo will be shown live on SBS and SBS on demand.

Milan-San Remo most wins

Eddie Merckx holds the record for the most wins at Milan-San Remo.

Between 1966 and 1976, the Belgium legend, still regarded as the greatest of all time, won Milan-San Remo a staggering seven times.

Costante Girardengo also won the race six times, while fellow Italian greats Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi won it four and three times respectively.

In more recent times Germany’s Erik Zabel won Milan-San Remo four times between 1997 and 2001, while Oscar Freire from Spain won the race in 2004, 2007 and 2010.

Milan-San Remo 2025 favourites

As things stand, Milan-San Remo is one of the few races that has yet to be won by Tadej Pogacar.

With that in mind, the Slovenian, who will wear the rainbow bands of the world champion in 2025, is sure to go all out for the win.

The route makes it difficult for Pogacar to launch his now trademark break for glory miles away from home.

It will come down to a battle on the Poggio, which means the race is wide open.

Pogacar can be backed at 4.50 to win Milan-San Remo, while Matthieu Van Der Poel, who won in 2023, is also the same price.

Jasper Philipsen who is the current champion, is 6.00 to go back-to-back.
