It sometimes takes place at the end of September, the night before the AFL grand final, however, the Moir Stakes will take place much earlier in 2024, on Saturday 7th September.

Scamanda was the first winner of the Moir Stakes in 1976 and there have been some big-name winners since then.
The legendary Black Caviar won it in 2010 and 2011, while Buffering won the Moir Stakes on three occasions in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
