Moore snaps up M C Muldoon

Ryan Moore has picked up the plum ride on leading Cesarewitch candidate M C Muldoon and heads a five-strong team from Willie Mullins' yard for the marathon contest at Newmarket on Saturday.

The six-year-old, who is an 9/2 chance on Saturday, has been towards the top of the market for the 2m2f heat since finishing an unlucky runner-up in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, having subsequently won a novice hurdle at the Galway festival in July.

Moore answers call

The Closutton trainer has called upon the services of Moore for his main hope and while he still has 11 horses engaged in the Cesarewitch, is expected to trim down his team that heads to the Rowley Mile to five as he bids for a fourth consecutive win in the handicap.

M C Muldoon could be joined by stablemates Burning Victory, Foveros, Whiskey Sour and Great White Shark, who landed the spoils by three lengths under Jason Watson last year and is expected to be ridden by the jockey once more.

Mullins impressed with MC Muldoon form

His rivals could also include the Nicky Henderson-trained Buzz, who is set to be ridden by Oisin Murphy, Calling The Wind and one-time Ebor favourite Live Your Dream, who finished second in the trial for the race last month.

Mullins said: "M C Muldoon is in great form and I'm very happy with him. He ran a great race at Ascot but just didn't get the bounce of the ball when he needed it and was narrowly beaten. He did well to win a novice hurdle at Galway the last time you saw him and he seems to be improving all the time."

He added: "We'll have to see what way the ground is closer to the time too, but it looks like we could have five runners in the race and we have five jockeys booked."
