NRL: More to come from Panthers says Cleary

Article originally published on (06/05/22)

Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary says there is even more to come from the Panthers this season despite them winning the opening eight games of the season.

The Panthers are priced at 11/50 to beat the Eels on home soil tonight and they are without doubt turning in to one of the greatest sides of the modern era.

Panthers dominating

Penrith won last season’s grand final to add to their appearance in the big dance the season before. And they look bang on course to get their again in 2022.

Since the start of the 2020 season they have played 59 games and won 52 of them. It is a staggering record that eclipses what the great Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters sides have done previously.

But they now need to go on and win more silverware and Cleary says there is even more to come from them.

"I feel like we're still definitely building," Cleary said ahead of the Eels clash. "We're constantly an evolving thing, we always want to get better. We always want to be getting better. It's pleasing we have been able to find ways to win when things aren't going perfect for us."

Panthers resilience

Cleary says one key development has been their ability to grind out results when things have not quite been going to plan. They have come from behind to win more regularly than before.

“It just gives everyone confidence that if things aren't working, it won't take long to turn things around,” he added. "It's something I have learned over time. 80 minutes is a long time.

"Sometimes, once you get behind on the scoreboard you think you have to score straight away. That's a trap you can fall into and it leads to even more errors."
