Race 7 Moruya

Mosgold goes for Moruya Cup glory

Moruya is set to play host to an eight-race card, with the Moruya Cup over 1425m coming up as the penultimate race of the day.

A soft 5 track is expected for the feature, with Zouatica expected to proper popular for jockey Quayde Krogh.

The gelding showed good form when winning by nearly two lengths in a 1400m Class 3 handicap held on a heavy 8 track when racing first up this spell.

The four-year-old acquitted himself well despite finishing held in sixth when contesting a Benchmark 72 handicap over the same trip at Randwick the following month.

The drop down to country level racing is a positive here, however, given the son of Zoustar often races from the front a wide barrier in 13 isn’t ideal here.

MOSGOLD is preferred in this contest having shown good form since resuming with a fourth in a maiden over 1000m at Wagga in April.

The 3.20 selection raced on a soft 5 track that day and has gone on to register four subsequent victories including twice on a good 4 track.

The first of those good 4 surface triumphs came when tackling a 1300m Class 3 fillies’ handicap at Goulburn in early November.

Tash Burleigh’s inmate raced close to the speed that day and put a defeat on a heavy 8 track at Kembla Grange behind her when saluting in a metro Class 3 handicap at Randwick December 9th.

The pick raced on a good 4 track under her jockey here Jett Stanley on that occasion and racing off a nice weight here she looks up to completing a double.

Lass backed for Cairns victory

The fifth race on the Cairns card takes the eye with the Benchmark 65 handicap set to take place over 1500m.

A soft 5 track is expected here, with Sir Maximus bidding to complete a hat-trick following wins at Townsville and on a soft 6 track over 1400m in a Class 2 handicap here December 23rd.

Matthew McGuire’s five-year-old has appeared to appreciate racing prominently in recent starts and, while he holds strong claims, top weight LOBURN LASS may have too much for him in this event.

The daughter of Dissident has placed on each of her last three starts including twice in Benchmark 70 races at this venue.

The most recent of those saw the 7.00 selection lose out by a narrow margin when racing from the front in a course and distance handicap held on a soft 6 track last month.

The pick is one of three runners for trainer Alwyn Bailey on the card and with Chris Whiteley booked his representative looks up to delivering a victory.

Ishani to secure maiden success

Trainer Brett Cavanough has his string in good form with the trainer boasting an impressive 33% strike-rate (12/36) in the last 30 days.

The handler saddles four runners at Tamworth with ISHANI selected to register her first victory in the fourth race of the day.

The race in question is a 1200m set weights maiden for fillies & mares with the pick heading into this contest on the back of a third in a 1000m maiden at Gosford last month.

The 1.70 selection was making her first start in nearly a year when racing on a soft 7 track on that occasion however she has performed well on a sound surface in the past.

The step up in distance shouldn’t inconvenience the filly with the blinkers worn last time out replaced with a first-time visor for this event.

Mitchell Bell’s mount will jump from barrier seven here and the I Am Invincible filly is expected to prove hard to beat.
