Australian Racing: Mr Magnus looking good at Sale

There are three meetings set to take place on Tuesday, including at Sale where an eight-race card is scheduled.

Coffs Harbour and Townsville are the other venues for racing on Tuesday.

Race 6 Sale

Mr Magnus @ 3.80

Race 7 Coffs Harbour

Beef Week Princess @ 8.00

Race 6 Townsville

Sensationabull @ 7.00

Magnus tipped for Sale success

The sixth race on the Sale card is an interesting 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a good 4 track.

Luke Oliver’s Our Malyshka is expected to have her supporters, having made the perfect start to her career when debuting with a win here in January.

The three-year-old jumped at odds of $10 when racing close to the speed prior to delivering a victory by over half-a-length on that occasion.

The runner-up that day has won since, however a number of those in behind haven’t fared as well and MR MAGNUS is preferred on this occasion.

Trained by Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock, the gelding showed plenty of ability in 2023 including when placing third on his first two starts.

The 3.80 selection resumed with a maiden victory by over a length when contesting a 1000m event on a good 4 track at Bendigo last month.

The gelding proved that he can be competitive against winners when catching the eye in finishing a length third in a Benchmark 58 handicap at Echuca earlier this month.

The pick has raced from off the pace in both previous starts this prep and similar tactics are expected jumping from a wide barrier.

Patrick Moloney, on board at both Bendigo and Echuca is again set to ride and his mount is taken to return to winning ways.

Princess poised for Harbour win

The penultimate race on Coffs Harbour’s eight race program is a 1305m Benchmark 82 handicap.

A heavy 10 track is anticipated for the race, with Olakau’atu expected to start favourite having shown a liking for this venue in the past.

The gelding won in Benchmark 66 company when taking a 1405m event here in September and has placed on both subsequent starts at this track.

The second of those saw him beaten four lengths into second when racing over 1500m in a Benchmark 82 handicap on a heavy 8 track last month.

The four-year-old has delivered a fair fourth over 1400m at Tamworth subsequently and drops back in distance for this contest.

BEEF WEEK PRINCESS is the pick here, however, having been kept busy this prep registering seven starts since winning at Ballina in January.

That Ballina success came in a 1600m Benchmark 66 handicap held on a good 3 track and she has won over 1800m on a good 4 surface at Gold Coast since.

The 8.00 pick came close to delivering a metro victory when a good second in a 1600m Benchmark 78 handicap at Eagle Farm on her penultimate outing.

The six-year-old was the subject of a steward’s enquiry when failing to shine in finishing last of fourteen over 1615m at Doomben when last in action on 13th April.

Daniel Bowen’s mare is expected to put that disappointment behind her, however, and is selected to deliver the ninth win of her career.

Sensationabull to complete four-timer

The sixth race at Townsville sees SENSATIONABULL go in search of a four-timer for trainer Joshua Manzelmann.

The four-year-old is set to contest a 1000m Benchmark 55 handicap, having won in lower grade contests in each of his last three starts.

The most recent of those victories saw him triumph by under a length in a 1075m Benchmark 45 handicap on a good 3 surface at Thangool on 13th April.

The swich to a wet track is no issue with the 7.00 pick having won twice on a soft surface this prep including by four-and-a-half-lengths at Home Hill on his penultimate start.

While a wide barrier isn’t ideal, jockey Lachlan Overall's two-kilogram claim is a positive and he looks capable of continuing his winning run.
