Australian Racing: Mrs Kangaroo can spring to victory

There are eight meetings set to take place on Sunday with Gosford’s seven-race card the most valuable.

Race 5 Gosford

Caring Lass @ 5.50

Race 5 Bunbury

Mrs Kangaroo @ 6.50

Race 5 Sunshine Coast

Toni Too @ 4.20

Lass for Gosford glory

The fifth race on the Gosford card is a 1900m Benchmark 68 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

Top weight New Republic is expected to jump as favourite, dropping to a provincial contest having finished seven-lengths eighth in a metro event over 1800m at Randwick.

That Randwick contest was a Benchmark 78 handicap that took place on a soft 5 track, with the gelding having finished a close up fourth over 1900m in a Canterbury Benchmark 72 race prior.

However, trainer Mark Minervini is on the cold list at present and his representative here looks opposable with preference for CARING LASS.

Trained by Matthew Smith, the pick failed to shine when making her first start back from a spell at Hawkesbury last month.

The four-year-old finished last of six in a 1500m Benchmark 64 handicap at Hawkesbury that day but has shown better form in two subsequent starts.

Both of those subsequent efforts have come on wet tracks, including when putting daylight between herself and her rivals in taking out a six runner 1600m Class 3 handicap at Canberra next time.

The daughter Sebring comes into this contest on the back of a length second in a 1600m Benchmark 64 handicap on a soft 7 track at Gosford and she looks up to saluting from barrier eight.

Kangaroo for Bunbury victory

The fifth race at Bunbury takes the eye with the Class 1 handicap set to be contested over 1016m on a good 4 track.

Top weight Hit The Jackpot showed plenty of ability in his last spell, including when runner-up over 1000m on a heavy 10 track at Belmont Park in August.

Ryan Hill’s gelding returned this spell with a maiden success when racing on a sound surface for the first time in a 1111m maiden at this track earlier this month.

The three-year-old made all that day, however, stablemate MRS KANGAROO is the selection in this event.

The filly has shown good form in registering three placed efforts from as many starts this season, including when losing out by a narrow margin when runner-up at Belmont Park recently.

That Belmont Park effort came over 1000m in a Class 1 handicap held on a good 4 track and she gets similar conditions here.

The pick had a couple of her rivals behind her that day in Twigger and De Lovely Lad and, with jockey Zephan Johnston-Porter taking three kilograms off, she is selected to record a victory here.

Toni to salute

Sunshine Coast are set to stage an eight-race card with a soft 5 track expected at the Queensland venue.

The fifth race on the card is a Restricted 58 handicap with a field of 13 declared for the 1800m contest.

TONI TOO is a regular at this venue with all six of her starts this time around coming here.

Notably the mare has placed on her last three outings, with all three of those efforts coming on wet surfaces, including when runner-up in an 1800m Benchmark 62 handicap on 17th December.

Prior to that the selection had been beaten a length over 1600m at this venue when contesting at Benchmark 58 handicap held on a soft 5 surface.

The six-year-old is a versatile type with regard to tactics and that is a positive here, with the mare looking capable of getting trainer Paul Jenkins off the cold list.
