Newcastle Jets will be out to make it three wins on the spin when they host Brisbane Roar on Friday night.
The Jets sit in 11th place on the ladder and a place in the top six looks to be out of reach.
However the last two results have at least given the fans some hope that a late charge for finals could be on the cards.
No such hope for Brisbane Roar, who are desperate for the points in an attempt to avoid picking up the wooden spoon.
They have three games in hand on Perth Glory, but with just one win all season, it is not looking good for Roar.
Newcastle Jets have hit a rich vein of form and are undefeated in the last four matches.
Following draw with Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners, the Jets have kicked on and beaten both Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United.
To beat Victory 3-0 and then win 2-1 away at second-placed Adelaide, shows how well the Jets are performing.
There can be no room for complacency, but they will fancy their chances of keeping their run going against Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Lachlan Rose and Clayton Taylor are doing the damage for the Jets.
Rose has scored in each of the last three games, while Taylor has scored three in the last four games.
The Jets have won the last three games against Brisbane Roar, including a 1-0 win at Suncorp Stadium back in January.
Rose was the match-winner on that occasion as well and looks sure to be a threat on Friday night.
It continues to be a tough season for Brisbane, who sit bottom of the ladder with just one win to their name this season.
But there have been signs of improvement in recent weeks. There was little between the two sides in 1-0 defeats against the Jets, Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers.
Indeed five of the last eight games have seen Brisbane lose 1-0.
They picked up their first win in a thrilling 4-3 victory away at Sydney FC, and drew 1-1 away at Wellington Phoenix at the weekend.
Henry Hore scored the equaliser in that game, while he also bagged in the win over Sydney.
The last time they won at Newcastle was in the Australian Cup in 2023, when they edged a thriller 3-2.
