NRL: Dragons and Warriors set for battle

With just one point separating the St George/Illawarra Dragons and the New Zealand Warriors, a tight affair might well be on the cards when they clash at WIN Stadium on Friday night.

The Dragons impressed last time out with victory over Wests Tigers and they will be quietly confident they can cause an upset against a strong Warriors side.

Friday night also throws up an NRL game from Darwin, as the Parramatta Eels and the Dolphins face off at TIO Stadium.

Two intriguing games await ahead of the weekend and here we preview what can be expected in this doubleheader.

Dragons eyeing upset

. What: St George/Illawarra Dragons v New Zealand Warriors
. Where: WIN Stadium, Wollongong
. When: 18:00 (AEST), Friday 19th April 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: St George/Illawarra Dragons 2.65, New Zealand Warriors 1.48

A win on the road at Wests Tigers will certainly have given confidence a lift in the Dragons’ camp, as they took down Benji Marshall’s men 24-12 last time out.

Zac Lomax and Jaydn Su’A both impressed for the Red V in that encounter and now the Dragons will have their eyes set on the arrival of the Warriors across the Tasman.

Once again playmaker Shaun Johnson has been pulling the strings and helped the Warriors come from 22-14 down with just two minutes to go to level the scores.

Golden point could not separate the teams but the Warriors will be happy with the draw, considering they were staring down the barrel of defeat so late in the game.

Johnson next goes head-to-head with fellow playmaker Ben Hunt in a mouthwatering match-up, with the Dragons at the 2.65 underdogs, against the 1.48 Warriors.

In the Line market, the Dragons are handed a +6.5 head start at odds of 1.87, in what should be an end-to-end contest.

Dolphins to have depth tested

. What: Parramatta Eels v Dolphins
. Where: TIO Stadium, Darwin
. When: 20:00 (AEST), Friday 19th April 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 9
. Odds: Parramatta Eels 1.40, Dolphins 3.00

Injuries and suspensions have hit the Dolphins hard, as they head to TIO Stadium to face the Parramatta Eels on Friday night.

Losing Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to a hamstring injury, the star fullback joins the list of walking wounded, while Anthony Milford is suspended for the trip to Darwin.

As for the Eels, they got back in the saddle against the North Queensland Cowboys last time out, after losing three of their first five games of the NRL campaign.

Having been thumped 41-8 in their previous game against the Canberra Raiders, the Eels showed great resilience to respond with a 27-20 win over the Cowboys.

Now Parramatta will be hoping the home comforts of TIO Stadium can help them earn back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The Eels are 1.40 favourites to take down a depleted Dolphins side, who are 3.00 to cause an upset and win in Darwin.

Looking at the Line market, the Eels are the -8.5 favourites at 2.00 to fall on the right side of the handicap in this one.
