NRL: Eels and Titans host Saturday double

Looking to hit the ground running in their opening games of the 2024 NRL season, the Parramatta Eels host the Canterbury Bulldogs, before St George/Illawarra Dragons travel to the Gold Coast Titans.

All four of these sides missed out on the top eight last season and all will be determined to make amends this year.

A solid start to the campaign would not go amiss and here’s how these sides are shaping up going into into Saturday’s openers in Sydney and Gold Coast.

Eels looking to right the wrongs of 2023

. What: Parramatta Eels v Canterbury Bulldogs
. Where: CommBank Stadium, Sydney
. When: 16:30 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Fox Sports
. Odds: Parramatta Eels 1.40, Canterbury Bulldogs 3.00

Missing out on the top eight by just two points at the end of the regular season, Parramatta will be determined to right the wrongs of their campaign last year.

Starting with the arrival of the Bulldogs to CommBank Stadium, the Eels have a good opportunity to get off to a winning start.

The Eels are the 1.40 favourites to claim the win on home soil, against a Canterbury side that managed seven wins in 24 games last season.

With the likes of Clint Gutherson, Mitch Moses and Dylan Brown in their ranks, Parramatta will be eager to make a winning start and get back to the form that saw them reach the 2022 grand final.

The Bulldogs meanwhile have new skipper Stephen Crichton set to lead from the front, with new faces Drew Hutchison, Bronson Xerri and Blake Taaffe all set to make their debuts this weekend.

Canterbury have been busy with recruitment and are 3.00 to see it make a difference with a winning start on Saturday.

Ground to make up for Titans and Dragons

. What: Gold Coast Titans v St George/Illawarra Dragons
. Where: Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast
. When: 18:35 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Fox Sports
. Odds: Gold Coast Titans 1.50, St George/Illawarra Dragons 2.60

Managing just 14 wins from 48 games between these two sides in the 2023 regular season, both the Titans and Dragons have ground to make up this season.

Both clubs are hoping for a new head coach bounce, with Gold Coast looking to Des Hasler for inspiration, while the Dragons have opted for Shane Flanagan.

The Dragons are winless in their last four visits to Cbus Super Stadium and are understandably the underdogs at 2.60 to end that losing run at this venue.

On a day in which Isaac Liu is set to make his 250th NRL appearance, the Titans will hope to make it a special day for the veteran and are available at 1.50 to make a winning start to the season.
