NRL: Eels out to pile more pressure on Panthers

Penrith Panthers will be out to secure their first win of the season when they take on big local rivals Parramatta Eels in a blockbuster on Friday night.

The Panthers began the NRL season with defeat against Melbourne Storm last weekend, to add to the loss against Wigan Warriors in the World Club Challenge.

Penrith are 4.00 to retain their title and win the grand final and they will be keen to get back to winning ways.

In the early game on Friday, Cronulla Sharks will targeting back-to-back wins against a Canterbury Bulldogs side that were defeated by the Eels last week.

The Sharks will be targeting the top eight at the very least this season, and are 1.65 to secure their spot.

Mulitalo hits ground running

. What: Cronulla Sharks v Canterbury Bulldogs
. Where: PointsBet Stadium, Sydney
. When: 17:00 (AEST), Friday 15th March 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Cronulla Sharks 1.31, Canterbury Bulldogs 3.50

Cronulla Sharks showed tremendous spirit when coming from behind to beat New Zealand Warriors on their own patch last week.

Trailing 12-6 at half-time, they came roaring back after the break, with the prolific Ronaldo Mulitalo getting one of the tries.

The winger has scored 27 tries in 25 games at PointsBet Stadium, and is 2.00 to score at anytime against the Bulldogs, or 7.50 to grab the first.

The Sharks have dominated the Bulldogs in recent years, winning 11 of the last 13 games, and put on big scores in both games last season.

They will be looking to do the same again and are 5.50 to win by 16-20 points.

The Bulldogs have only won one away game in the last eight and will be hoping new skipper Stephen Crichton can find his form quickly.

Former Penrith ace Crichton can be backed at 3.90 to score a try at anytime.

Panthers look to bounce back

. What: Penrith Panthers v Parramatta Eels
. Where: BlueBet Stadium, Penrith
. When: 19:00 (AEST), Friday 15th March 2024
. How to watch: Channel 9, Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Penrith Panthers 1.40, Parramatta Eels 3.00

Penrith Panthers will need to cut out the errors if they are to see off arch rivals Parramatta at BlueBet Stadium.

They conceded far too many against the Storm last week, and then failed to break down a resolute defence in the 8-0 loss.

The Panthers will welcome back Mitch Kenny at hooker, which is a huge boost as they go in search of the two points.

Sunia Turuva will be a big threat for the Panthers and is priced at 2.50 to grab a try at anytime in the game.

The Eels will fancy their chances of grabbing the points after winning four of their last six trips to the home of the Panthers.

Clint Gutherson is a man that rises to the occasion and is 3.60 to score a try at anytime.

There is a good chance the game will be close, and the Eels can be backed at 7.50 to win by 1-5 points.
