NRL: Panthers and Sharks back on track in Week 14

State of Origin stars returned to action in Week 14 of the 2024 NRL season as Penrith Panthers returned to winning ways.

The Panthers are still missing the injured Nathan Cleary, but having their Origin stars back helped them see off a spirited Manly Sea Eagles side on Sunday.

Panthers back on track

Penrith Panthers jumped back to third spot on the ladder following an enthralling 32-22 win over Manly Sea Eagles.

Following the shock 22-10 home defeat against the Dragons in Week 13, it was important that the Panthers bounced back.

And they did just that in an exciting game that could have gone either way at one stage.

There was nothing in it at half-time, but Ivan Cleary’s side managed to put their foot on the gas after the break.

To their credit Manly refused to go away and a late try by Jason Saab set up a grandstand finish.

Penrith managed to get the job done with New South Wales star Brian To’o the star of the show for them with three tries.

He was trumped by Manly winger Tommy Talau, who scored four, and there were positives for the Sea Eagles to take from the game.

Penrith look the team to beat once again and are 3.10 to win their fourth grand final on the bounce.

Next up for them is a tricky trip to take on Newcastle, while the Sea Eagles will entertain an in-form Dragons side.

Sharks bite back

Cronulla Sharks were another side to return to winning ways as they picked up a massive win against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

Following a 42-0 loss to the Panthers and a shock defeat against Parramatta, questions were being asked regards Cronulla’s premiership credentials.

However they answered the critics in perfect fashion with a 22-12 win in Brisbane.

The win keeps them in second spot on the ladder and they need to back it up with another two points against the Dolphins on Thursday night.

They can be backed at 1.38 to do just that, while the Dolphins are priced at 3.10 to get the win.

Brisbane continue to struggle without big names like Adam Reynolds and Reece Walsh in the side.

That is now two defeats on the spin and they are priced at 5.75 to go on and win the 2024 grand final.

Next they face South Sydney Rabbitohs, but will be without Walsh again as he recovers from the concussion suffered in State of Origin.

Bunnies bouncing back

South Sydney Rabbitohs are starting to show some form following a shocking start to the 2024 NRL campaign.

The bunnies now have two wins on the spin after smashing Gold Coast Titans 46-12 at the weekend.

It followed on from the 42-26 win over Parramatta Eels the week before, and all of a sudden things are looking a lot brighter.

Latrell Mitchell was back at something like his best and will be hoping he has done enough to earn a recall to the New South Wales side for game 2.

Souths will look to keep the run going against Brisbane on Friday night and are priced at 2.45 to get the win, while the Broncos are 1.56.
