NRL: Panthers can put Knights to the sword

The Penrith Panthers will look to keep up their excellent record against the Newcastle Knights when the two sides meet at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.

Only losing one of their last 14 games against the Knights, this has been a fixture the current NRL champions have looked forward to over the years.

Newcastle have not beaten the Panthers at McDonald Jones Stadium since 2015 and will be hoping this weekend they can end the long wait for victory over Penrith.

Knights looking to rediscover form

After winning four games on the bounce against the Dolphins, New Zealand Warriors, Wests Tigers and Gold Coast Titans, the Knights have hit a wall in the last fortnight.

Back-to-back defeats at the hands of the Canterbury Bulldogs and Melbourne Storm have stalled the Knights’ charge and now they are looking to rediscover the form that served them so well from the end of April for a few weeks.

The Knights will be boosted by the return of Bradman Best to the centres, while Fletcher Sharpe has made the fullback spot his own in recent weeks.

Newcastle boss Adam O’Brien will be hoping Daniel Saifiti can recover from a knee injury to feature in some capacity against the Panthers.

Considering their poor record against Penrith, it’s little surprise the Knights are the 3.60 underdogs to claim the win on Sunday.

Looking at the Line market, the hosts are 1.91 with +10.5 points at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Panthers battle for top four once again

The dominant force in the NRL in recent years, the Panthers are once again well-placed on the ladder as they look forward to bye weeks coming in Round 16 and 19.

After disapatching the Man Sea Eagles in a high-scoring shootout, the Panthers will now look forward to their happy hunting ground that has been McDonald Jones Stadium.

Dylan Edwards is named to play at fullback following the quad injury that saw him miss out on making his State of Origin debut last week.

Back-rower Liam Martin has been out with an ankle injury but has been named in the wider reserves for this game and could yet feature against the Knights.

Jack Cole will once again partner Jarome Luai in the halfbacks, after impressing in the 32-22 win over the Sea Eagles last time out.

The Panthers are 1.27 to inflict another defeat on the Knights this weekend, while Brian To’o is a player to look out for in the anytime tryscorer market.

To’o has scored five tries in five games against the Knights and the winger is available at 1.72 to score anytime and 6.50 to score the opening try of the game on Sunday.
