NRL: Roosters and Broncos clash in blockbuster

Two of the big contenders for the 2024 NRL premiership, Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos, go head-to-head in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The Broncos have been outstanding in the trials and look to have put last season’s grand final defeat against Penrith behind them.

Only time will tell if they have, but they can be backed at 4.50 to go one better in 2024.

The Roosters are priced at 9.00 and have the players to win the premiership. The same was said 12 months ago but they failed to deliver.

Trent Robinson’s side will be keen to make amends and they could be in for a big year if they produce.

There is no better game as the NRL looks to catch the imagination of sports fans in the United States.

. What: Sydney Roosters v Brisbane Broncos
. Where: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas
. When: 14:30 (AEST), Sunday 3rd March 2024
. How to watch: Channel 9, Foxtel, Kayo
. Odds: Sydney Roosters 2.35, Brisbane Broncos 1.60

Leniu key for the Roosters

The Roosters will be out to get off to a strong start after a disappointing 2023. They did manage to make the top eight in the end and showed plenty of spirit in the finals campaign.

However, they still fell below expectations and will be keen to bounce back.

The Bondi outfit have strengthened well in the off-season and the capture of Spencer Leniu in particular is a great addition.

Arriving from Penrith, the second rower has a huge role to play and will make his NRL debut for the Roosters in Vegas.

There are a couple of big players missing however. Fellow new signing Dom Young misses out through injury, while influential forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is out suspended.

With no Young, Joseph Suaalii is set to play on the wing and he can be backed at 2.35 to grab a try at anytime during the game.

The Roosters do have a good record against the Broncos when winning five of the last seven games, but making it six from eight will be a huge task.

New-look Broncos

The Broncos have lost a couple of key players from the side that made the grand final, but their roster is still super strong.

All eyes will be on star fullback Reece Walsh, who is set up for another huge season, but the Broncos have talent throughout.

They have shown they are already in good touch after winning the Pre-Season Challenge, and will be ready to hit the ground running.

Corey Oates has scored five tries in his last two games against the Roosters, but is 18th man heading into this latest meeting.

Selwyn Cobbo has scored 19 tries in his last 22 NRL games, but will shift to centre on Sunday with 20-year-old Deine Mariner starting on the wing.

Mariner can be backed at 8.50 to score the first try of the game, while Cobbo is 9.50.

It looks like being a tight game that could go either way.

The Broncos are 3.10 to win by 1-12 points, while the Roosters are priced at 3.50.
