NRL: Storm target three on the spin

Melbourne Storm will be targeting three wins on the bounce when they travel to take on Newcastle Knights on Sunday evening.

The Storm have started the season in solid fashion when beating Penrith Panthers and New Zealand Warriors in the opening two games.

Craig Bellamy’s side are looking like premiership contenders and can be backed at 9.00 to go on and win the grand final.

But to do that they will have to win at places like Newcastle and Sunday will be a test of their credentials.

The Knights started the season full of optimism, but two defeats has taken the wind out of the sails and they need to get back on course.

Newcastle are 3.00 to make the top eight this season and they can ill afford to be 0-3.

Knights axe Hastings

. What: Newcastle Knights v Melbourne Storm
. Where: McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
. When: 17:15 (AEST), Sunday 24th March 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Newcastle Knights 1.75, Melbourne Storm 2.10

The Knights have taken drastic action after losing the opening two game of the NRL season, by dropping halfback Jackson Hastings.

Axing Hastings after two games could seem a little harsh, but coach Adam O’Brien clearly believes a change is needed, and Jack Cogger has been brought in.

Whether it reaps the rewards, only time will tell.

Newcastle do have a good record at McDonald Jones Stadium, winning eight out of the last 10 games there.

However they began the season with a 16-point defeat against the Raiders and will be keen to repay the Newcastle faithful.

They can be backed at 6.00 to do that and win by 6-10 points.

Bradman Best also likes playing against the Storm and has scored three tries in the last four games against them.

He can be backed at 2.90 to score another try at anytime on Sunday.

Storm out for three in a row

The Storm got out of jail when coming from behind to snatch a late win against the Warriors last week.

Xavier Coates wrapped up the points with a stunning finish at the death, and the winger is priced at 11.00 to grab the first try.

Melbourne have won 16 of the 30 NRL games they have played against the Knights, but if they are to make it 17, they will have to do it without a couple of key players.

Cameron Munster continues to struggle with a groin injury, while Jahrome Hughes will miss out through a one-game suspension.

Tyran Wishart will play at halfback to replace Hughes, while new signing Shawn Blore is also in line to make his first appearance for the club.

Storm are 6.50 to win by 1-5 points.
