NRL: Tigers face tough Raiders test

Wests Tigers will get their NRL season underway when they travel to take on Canberra Raiders on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers had a bye last weekend and will be keen to start on a positive note under the leadership of new head coach Benji Marshall.

However, they are tipped for another season of struggle and are priced at 3.00 to suffer most losses in the season.

There are two other games to look forward to on Saturday with North Queensland Cowboys entertaining Newcastle Knights, while Melbourne Storm face New Zealand Warriors.

The Storm beat the Panthers 8-0 last week and can be backed at 10.00 to win the Grand Final.

Raiders target back-to-back wins

. What: Canberra Raiders v Wests Tigers
. Where: GIO Stadium, Canberra
. When: 14:00 (AEST), Saturday 16th March 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Canberra Raiders 1.44, Wests Tigers 2.80

Canberra got the season off to a flyer, proving the doubters wrong to win at Newcastle, and now need another two points back on home soil.

The Raiders have a good record against the Tigers having won the last seven games against them, and are the hot fancies to make it eight.

If the Tigers do make a fist of it, then the Raiders can be backed at 6.00 to win by 6-10 points.

Jordan Rapana, who shone against Newcastle last week, has a good try-scoring record against the Tigers and can be backed at 13.00 to score the first try.

The Tigers do have some new recruits including Jayden Sullivan, who has been named to play in the halves and is priced at 4.75 to score a try at anytime.

Cowboys off to a flyer

. What: North Queensland Cowboys v Newcastle Knights
. Where: Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville
. When: 16:30 (AEST), Saturday 16th March 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: North Queensland Cowboys 1.42, Newcastle Knights 2.90

The Cowboys blew away the Dolphins in fine style on Sunday and will look to keep that form going on home soil against the Knights.

Head coach Todd Payten will be able to name the same side that romped to a 43-18 win.

Zac Laybutt caught the eye with a couple of tries and can be backed at 2.90 to score another at anytime against the Knights.

The Knights were very disappointing when losing 28-12 against the Raiders and will want to respond.

They have also lost winger Enari Tuala to a quad injury, so Tom Jenkins, who is 12.00 to score the first try, gets the nod.

Newcastle can be backed at 7.50 to snatch the win by 1-5 points.

Warriors must weather the Storm

. What: Melbourne Storm v New Zealand Warriors
. Where: AAMI Park, Melbourne
. When: 18:35 (AEST), Saturday 16th March 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Melbourne Storm 1.45, New Zealand Warriors 2.75

The Storm showed what they are made of when beating the Panthers in their opening game last week.

Their defence was outstanding when keeping the Panthers at bay, but they will be hoping to spend more time on the front foot against the Warriors.

Storm have won the last 14 games against the Warriors, who last won at AAMI Park way back in 2014.

Craig Bellamy’s side can be backed at 6.50 to win the game by 16-20 points.

Xavier Coates will be a big threat for the home side and is priced at 7.50 to score the first try.
