NRL: Tight contest expected between Raiders and Eels

Both sat on four points after their first four games of the season, a tight battle is anticipated when the Canberra Raiders host the Parramatta Eels on Sunday.

The Raiders will need to dust themselves off quickly after they squandered an 18-point lead to lose against the Cronulla Sharks last time out.

Parramatta were also left to rue an opportunity missed last time out as they went down to an impressive Wests Tigers side after a missed late penalty goal from Clint Gutherson.

Both teams will be determined to get back to winning ways and a mighty tussle is expected at GIO Stadium this weekend.

Raiders require reaction

Having scored three tries in the opening 24 minutes of their game against the Sharks, Canberra went on to concede five tries in a row to fall to a second defeat on the spin.

Winning their opening two games of the season, expectations were on the up but those will have been tempered by results over the last fortnight.

Raiders head coach Ricky Stuart will want a response from his side, who will be missing Zac Hosking due to a concussion.

Ata Mariota comes into the second row, while Corey Horsburgh has been named on the bench alongside new face Trey Mooney.

Playing at GIO Stadium, where the Raiders have won three of their last four games, Canberra are slight favourites at 1.78 to claim their third win of the season.

Sebastian Kris has scored four tries in five games against Parramatta and the Raiders’ centre is 2.80 to score anytime on Sunday.

Eels have form in this one

Winning five of their last seven games against the Raiders, this is a fixture that Parramatta have impressed in.

However, much of their success has been on their own patch and the Eels have managed to win just two of their last 12 games at GIO Stadium.

Head coach Brad Arthur will be eager to turn that trend around, as his Parramatta side look to get back to winning ways.

The visitors have Bailey Simonsson in for Morgan Harper, while Wiremu Greig comes in for Brendan Hands on the bench.

Parramatta are underdogs at 2.05 to make GIO Stadium a happier hunting ground this weekend with a win.

In the Line market, the travelling Eels are available at 1.91 with a +1.5 advantage, which just shows how tight this game is expected to be on Sunday in Canberra.
