Australian Racing: Oakfield Mahogany can produce polished performance

There’s just two meetings set to take place on Tuesday with Port Macquarie and Stawell both due to race.

Race 6 Port Macquarie

Shikanic @ 4.00

Race 8 Port Macquarie

Oakfield Mahogany @ 3.40

Race 1 Stawell

Whichitall @ 3.00

Shikanic to salute

The sixth race on the Port Macquarie card is an interesting 1100m Benchmark 58 event.

With a good 4 track expected Outreach To Henry is expected to have his supporters racing third up this spell.

The gelding performed well when fourth on a soft 5 surface over this trip at Hawkesbury in a Class 2 event on his return prior to a down the field effort when 10th upped to 1200m at Gosford.

Notably those races came at a higher level and he should appreciate the switch to country racing having won over this track and trip on a heavy 10 track last October.

SHIKANIC has drawn the rail here however and is preferred on this occasion. The four-year-old won twice last spell including over 1000m at Tamworth at the end of November.

That Tamworth triumph came on a good 3 track and the son of Nicconi was spelled following two unplaced efforts at Scone subsequently.

The selection delivered a good third place finish when racing in a Benchmark 58 event on a soft 5 track at Gunnedah first up this time around and with a good alley looks up to delivering a victory.

Mahogany can shine at Port Macquarie

OAKFIELD MAHOGANY takes the eye in the penultimate race at Port Macquarie. The race in question is a 1200m Class 2 handicap contest.

The selection showed good form last spell including when delivering a two length third in a Benchmark 64 contest at Wyong when racing first up in November.

The gelding followed that up with a second when racing at Benchmark 64 level. Both of those efforts came over 1100m and he has been spelled since finishing fourth over this trip in a Benchmark 68 contest on a soft 7 track at the same venue in January.

The pick has drawn barrier four here and having trialled well of late including when winning by half-a-length victory in a 1000m barrier trail at Wyong earlier this month he looks up to scoring first up.

Wichitall for Stawell success

The opener at Stawell is an interesting maiden contest with a field of 16 declared for the 1300m contest. Caesar Cake trialled well ahead of her debut Geelong winning all three of his barrier trials including twice at Beaudesert.

However the filly could finish only fifth in the 1240m maiden plate held on a good 4 track on March 24. Beaten less than one-and-a-half-lengths on debut that day she failed to shine when fifth over 1412m on a soft 5 track at the same venue subsequently.

While the daughter of Scissor Kick has a good barrier five off the rail here preference is for the once-raced WHICHITALL who caught the eye on debut at Warrnambool earlier this month.

The selection raced from off the pace prior to finishing strongly for third, beaten just under four lengths in a 1200m maiden plate held on a soft 6 track on that occasion.

The quicker going should prove no issue and Symond Wilde’s gelding is expected to have improved for that experience.

The stewards queried the hold up tactics used on that occasion and while interesting to see if the three-year-old is ridden closer to the pace here he looks up to registering his first victory.
