Olympic Golf: Australian hopes for gold in Guyancourt

With two strong teams in both the men’s and women’s golf competitions, Australia will be hoping to land gold medals at this summer’s Olympic Games.

The tournament will see Minjee Lee and Min Woo Lee become the first siblings to compete for Australia in Olympic golf.

This brother and sister combo will be joined by the experienced Jason Day and Hannah Green for this highly-anticipated event at Le Golf National in Guyancourt.

Here’s a look at Australia’s hopes for the men’s and women’s competitions, with all the action set to get underway on Thursday.

Min Woo Lee - 46.00

The shortest price of the two Aussies in the men’s competition, Min Woo is an outsider at 46.00 to cause an upset against the favourites from the USA, Ireland and Great Britain.

Speaking about the opportunity to play in such a prestigious event and alongside his sister, Min Woo said he will be going all out to bring back the gold for Australia.

“Now that it is starting to sink in, representing the Australian Olympic Team alongside my sister at Paris 2024 is actually crazy,” he said.

“Playing at the Olympics has been a goal of mine ever since Minjee qualified for the Rio Olympics in 2016. Now that it is here, I want to do the green and gold proud and will be doing everything I can to come home with a gold medal.”

Looking to alternative odds, Min Woo is available at 6.50 in the Top 5 market and could be in the mix come the final round if he finds his rhythm in Guyancourt.

Jason Day - 56.00

As the most experienced player in Australia’s team, Day will be looking to put all that knowledge to good use when he takes the course at Le Golf National.

Day has experience on the PGA Tour, in President Cups and World Cups, which should stand him in good stead as he faces stern competition.

In the Top 5 market, Day can be back at 7.50, while the former world number one is 3.60 to finish in the top 10 for this event.

Minjee Lee - 23.00

Minjee has already played for Australia at two previous Olympics and will make history by featuring in her third this summer on French soil.

While the likes of Nelly Korda and Atthaya Thitikul are the favourites at 6.00 and 8.50 respectively to win the competition, Minjee should certainly not be underestimated.

The Aussie is 23.00 to claim the gold in France after featuring at both the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo 2020.

Hannah Green - 26.00

Green also featured at the last Olympics in Japan and was Australia’s best performer in the competition.

She heads into this Games with some positive form to look back on, with two LPGA Tour wins this season.

With those wins taking her up to No.7 in the Women’s World Golf Ranking, Green will be hoping to impress at the Olympics once again and is 26.00 to claim the gold at Le Golf National.
