A-League: One in, two out at Adelaide

There has been plenty of transfer activity over the last couple of weeks and once again a number of A-League stars have opted to head overseas.

The transfer window for much of Europe closed this week, but before it did two A-League stars sealed moves to the English Premier League.

Central Coast Mariners could face a battle to keep hold of star striker Angel Torres, but for now, at least the Colombian ace is staying put.

There was also plenty of incoming activity as A-League sides strengthened their squads for the remainder of the season.

So let’s take a look at the biggest moves to go through.

Reds lose two keepers to England

Adelaide United have lost their star goalkeeper as EPL giants Aston Villa made a move just before the transfer window closed.

The 23-year-old has been away on international duty with the Socceroos, but that did not stop Villa from getting the deal done.

Gauci has signed a contract with Villa until 2028 after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee. It has been suggested the fee paid is an A-League record.

Gauci is not the only Adelaide player to be heading to the Premier League as young goalkeeper Stephen Hall also agreed a deal with Brighton.

Adelaide are having a tough season and were hammered 4-0 by Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.

They are priced at 2.25 to make the top six and there is plenty of work to do to get there.

Mauk returns to Reds

There is some good news for Adelaide United as former captain Stefan Mauk has returned to the club for a third stint.

The midfielder was up for grabs after a spell in Japan came to an end and he has penned a contract that will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The Reds will need his experience if they are to get back in the mix for grand final glory this season.

They are 17.00 to win the grand final, but must make the top six first of all.

Tilio back to boost City

Melbourne City will be hoping the return of Marco Tilio can spark some life into their season.

The talented forward joined Scottish giants Celtic last season, but has struggled for regular game-time in the Scottish Premier League.

Tilio will now spend the rest of the season on loan with City as they look to get back in the hunt to win the grand final.

They are priced at 5.00 to do so and Tilio could play a big role.

He scored 20 goals and provided 19 assists in 86 appearances before making the switch to Celtic.

Wanderers snap up German

Western Sydney Wanderers have signed former Germany youth international Sonny Kittel on loan from Rakow Częstochowa until the end of the season.

The attacking midfielder has vast experience and will add another dimension to the Wanderers attack as they push for silverware.

The 31-year-old has played for clubs such as Hamburg SV and Eintracht Frankfurt and could be a key addition to Marko Rudan’s side.

The Wanderers can be backed at 8.00 to win the grand final.
