NRL: Panthers look to bounce back

Penrith Panthers will look to return to winning ways when they take on the Newcastle Knights on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers slipped to a golden-point defeat in a thrilling game against North Queensland Cowboys last week and need a response against the Knights.

There was another golden-point thriller when these two sides met back in April. Penrith came out on top on that occasion and we could be in for another tight one at BlueBet Stadium.

Newcastle are a much-improved side in 2023 but they still have plenty of work to do if they are to make the top eight and play finals.

They have won just the one game outside of Newcastle this season and a trip to take on the Panthers will be their toughest test yet.

Panthers wait on Origin stars

The Panthers had won five games on the bounce before they slipped up against the Cowboys last week, and will be keen to return to winning ways.

They were without the injured Nathan Cleary and their State of Origin stars against the Cowboys and will be hoping they all come through unscathed in game two on Wednesday night.

Cleary remains on the sidelines but Jarome Luai and Isaah Yeo are set to come back in, while Moses Leota is also back and will take the number eight jersey.

Penrith have made Penrith Stadium a fortress once again, with the Brisbane Broncos the only side to have beaten them at home. The Panthers have won the other four games.

They have also dominated the Knights in recent meetings when winning the last seven games and are the hot fancies to make it eight.

Winger Brian To’o will again be a big threat for the Panthers and he loves playing against the Knights, scoring five tries in the last five games against them.

To’o is priced at 6.50 to score the first try of the game on Saturday afternoon.

Knights must cure travel sickness

Newcastle Knights have lost the last two games against the Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters, but not by much.

The Knights ran the high-flying Broncos close at Suncorp Stadium, losing by just four points, and that should give them confidence heading to Penrith.

If the Knights are to pull off an upset there will not be much in it and they can be backed at 9.00 to win by 1-5 points.

Winger Dom Young will also be key to their chances as he tops the NRL try-scoring charts with 16 this season and is priced at 2.25 to score at Anytime.

However the Knights have won just one game away from home this season and that was against the Tigers in just the second game of the season.

Newcastle are boosted by the return of Daniel Saifiti from injury, while they will be hoping Tyson Frizell returns from Origin duty unscathed.
