NRL: Panthers rocked by Cleary blow

NRL fans are in for a treat on Saturday with the top three, Penrith Panthers, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane Broncos, all in action.

Just four points separate the Panthers, who sit top, and the Sydney Roosters down in ninth spot, and the two sides will go head-to-head at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

Like Penrith, the Broncos are also on 20 points and they will fancy their chances of adding to the tally when they entertain Newcastle Knights at Suncorp.

To wrap up the action on Saturday, South Sydney Rabbitohs will make a short trip to take on a Dragons side that appears to be in turmoil.

It is all set up to be a huge day of action, and all the top teams cannot afford any slip ups.

Cleary out for Panthers

The Panthers may sit top of the pile but have been hit by the news that star playmaker Nathan Cleary is facing six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Cleary picked up the injury in the win over the Dragons last week, meaning Jack Cogger will now step in and play at halfback. The Panthers have won nine of 11 games they have played without Cleary and will be confident of getting the job done once again.

Penrith have the sign over the Roosters, winning the last seven games, including a 48-4 victory four weeks ago.

The Roosters have had a disappointing start, winning six and losing six, but they are still in the mix and can still challenge for the premiership if they get their act together.

They will once again look to their inspirational leader James Tedesco, who has scored four tries in the past two games and is priced at 3.10 to grab another at Anytime on Saturday night.

Dragons need a boost

The Dragons sit bottom of the ladder with just three wins all season, but they can think themselves unfortunate after slipping to an eight-point loss against the Panthers last start.

Despite losing 10 games this season, many of them have been tight affairs, and they can be backed at 7.50 to cause an upset and beat the Bunnies by 1-5 points.

Star playmaker Ben Hunt will again be key to the Dragons' chances and he has scored five tries in his past six games at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Souths had lost two games on the spin to halt their impressive winning streak, but bounced back well with an 18-point win over the Titans last week.

Winger Alex Johnston has scored 13 tries already this season and can be backed at 6.50 to grab the first against the Dragons.

Cobbo boost for Broncos

OddsBrisbane Broncos 1.21, Newcastle Knights 4.50

The Broncos continue to shine and confidence should be sky-high after they beat the Sharks 20-12 last week to take them to second on the ladder.

Brisbane won that came without Selwyn Cobbo, who was missing with a hip injury, but the winger is set to return against the Knights.

That is good news for the Broncos as he has scored six tries in his last three games against Newcastle and can be backed at 6.00 to score the first on Saturday.

The Knights are in decent form after winning two of their last three games, but they do not enjoy Queensland having lost six of their last eight trips to the state.

Newcastle are boosted by the return of Tyson Frizell and should also be fresh after having a bye in round 14.
