Perth Scorchers are the most successful Big Bash League team ever and they could take some stopping once again in the 2023/24 season.
The Scorchers have been crowned BBL champions on five occasions and will be going in search of the three-peat this season after winning the last two editions.
The men from Western Australia are once again blessed with a very strong-looking squad, which will be lead by their inspirational skipper Ashton Turner.
Turner’s men are the hot fancies at 3.60 to win the BBL grand final this season and they are without doubt the team to beat.
Here is all you need to know about the Perth Scorchers.
The Big Bash League has only been up and running for 11 seasons, and the Scorchers have played finals in all but one of them.
They have been crowned BBL Champions on five occasions in 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, 2021-22 and 2022-23 to make them the most successful side ever.
The Scorchers have also been runners-up on three occasions and have won the minor premiership five times.
It is hard to pin-point why the Scorchers have been so successful, but they have been blessed with some top-class T20 cricketers down the years. Many of whom originate from the west and have stayed loyal to their state.
Western Australia is also a difficult place for opposing teams to visit. The WACA was always a graveyard for opposing teams and now Optus Stadium is starting to have a similar effect.
Saying that, the Scorchers won the 2021-22 championship despite playing the vast majority of their games outside of WA due to the pandemic.
That illustrates the togetherness in the team and is another reason why they have been so successful throughout the BBL.
The Scorchers squad is once again looking strong and is packed with talent heading into the new season.
Title-winning Scorcher Laurie Evans is back in the west and the swashbuckling batsman will again be a key figure for the Scorchers this season.
He has been joined by star English opening batsman Zak Crawley, who showed his class during the Ashes series earlier this year.
There is a concern that England selection could limit his appearances, but he still has a big role to play for the Scorchers.
The Scorchers have also welcomed back wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Whiteman, who has spent the last two seasons with Sydney Thunder.
Whiteman will be able to step in for Josh Inglis behind the stumps, should the vice-captain become unavailable, while he is also an elegant batsman, who helped the Scorchers win three titles.
The Scorchers will begin their title defence with a double-header in Melbourne against the Renegades and the Stars.
The Renegades are first up on 10th December, with the clash against the Stars coming three days later.
The Scorchers then have two games at Optus Stadium in Perth. The first being against the Hobart Hurricanes on 20th December, before a Boxing Day clash against the Renegades.
To begin the new year, the Scorchers entertain Adelaide Strikers on 3rd January.
