A-League: Phoenix look to build on strong start

Wellington Phoenix will be looking to consolidate top spot on the A-League ladder when they take on Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

Phoenix are the surprise leaders after the opening six games and they have a great chance to keep the good run going when they face the Jets on home turf.

They are still a big price at 10.00 to win the minor premiership, so have work to do to win over the doubters.

In Saturday’s other game, another surprise package, Macarthur FC, are in action when they travel to take on Sydney FC.

The Bulls are third on the ladder and can be backed at 1.90 to finish in the top six this season.

Wellington Phoenix remain unbeaten so far this season with four wins and two draws to sit two points clear at the top of the ladder.

They have scored just the 10 goals so far, but are very solid at the back having conceded just four.

The Nix have won the last two games 1-0, and the same scoreline against Newcastle can be backed at 10.00.

Saying that, the games against the Jets are usually high-scoring affairs, and over 2.5 goals in the game is available at 1.57.

Home advantage will be key for Wellington. They have struggled at Newcastle but have won the last two games that have been played at Sky Stadium.

Newcastle have won just one game this season, but it was away from home when they beat Western United 1-0.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos remains their biggest threat in front of goal and he is priced at 3.00 to score at anytime.

Sydney FC are showing signs of improvement having won two of their last three games, but they face another big test when they face an in-form Macarthur.

The Sky Blues have found their shooting boots and scored another three in the win over Perth Glory at the weekend.

Joe Lolley continues to be a big threat with three goals and two assists so far this season, and the former Nottingham Forest star is priced at 2.40 to score at anytime on Saturday.

Macarthur have a good record at Allianz Stadium when winning two of the last three games there, including a 3-0 win last season.

The Bulls are in great touch this season and pulled off a big 4-3 win over Adelaide United on Monday to move to third on the ladder.

They have no problem scoring goals, but also have a tendency to let them in at the other end.

With that in mind, both teams to score is available at 1.50.
