A-League: Phoenix set for Wanderers test

There’s plenty of A-League action to take in on Saturday including a battle between first and third as Wellington Phoenix host Western Sydney Wanderers at Sky Stadium.

With just one defeat in their first eight outings of the season, Wellington lead the way on the ladder, while the Wanderers have also started strongly.

There will be plenty of attention on the action at Sky Stadium, while there are also clashes to look forward to in Sydney, Perth and a derby encounter in Melbourne.

After a disappointing defeat at the hands of the Newcastle Jets at Sky Stadium, Wellington responded at the first time of asking with a 3-0 win at Mcarthur last time out.

Next Giancarlo Italiano’s side welcome Western Sydney to the Kiwi capital, with the Wanderers also going well in the A-League.

Sat in third spot after their 1-0 win over Adelaide United last time out, Western Sydney will face a sterner test across The Tasman.

Costa Barbarouses bagged a brace against Mcarthur and is 4.50 in the Anytime Goalscorer market to get on the scoresheet against the Wanderers.

Wellington are 2.55 to bag their sixth win of the league campaign, while Western Sydney are 2.80 to cause an upset at Sky Stadium.

Sydney FC have endured a tough start to the season and will be determined to get back to winning ways against fellow strugglers Western United.

Both teams have managed just two wins from their first eight games and they both sit on six points at this stage.

Sydney FC have only lost one of their five home games against Western United and are understandably 1.65 favourites to claim the spoils on Saturday at Allianz Stadium.

Points and bragging rights on the line

It’s points and of course bragging rights that will be at stake at AAMI Park this weekend, as Melbourne City take on rivals Melbourne Victory.

Neither side has dominated this derby in recent years, with City and Victory both winning twice in the last four meetings.

Victory have made the stronger start this season and began the week in second, with City occupying sixth spot.

A stalemate on Saturday is available at 3.60 and a draw between these rivals would come as little surprise.

With just one win from their first eight games, it’s been a sorry start to the season for Perth Glory, as they prepare to host Macarthur FC on Saturday.

Winless in their last five games, Perth are desperate to get back to winning ways, but it won’t be easy against Macarthur, who have lost just one A-League game all season.

Perth are 2.40 for the win, while Macarthur are 2.75 to claim the spoils at HBF Park.
