AFL: Pies and Lions clash at the G

Week 23 of the 2023 AFL season gets underway with a blockbuster on Friday night as Collingwood entertain Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium.

It is first versus second on the ladder although the Pies have a healthy eight-point lead over the Lions with just two rounds of footy left to play.

Collingwood have top spot and the minor premiership in the bag, so the game is arguably bigger for the Lions as they look to lock in second spot.

That would make a huge difference to their chances of winning the flag, but they could have to win their remaining two games to be sure.

Port Adelaide in third spot are level on points with them and the battle is set to go right to the wire.

Brisbane are priced at 2.50 to make the grand final and finishing second would boost their chances of playing at the MCG in September.

Collingwood back on track

Collingwood returned to winning ways with an eight-point win over Geelong last week and will be out to keep the good times rolling heading into finals.

Back-to-back defeats against Carlton and Hawthorn showed there may be a chink in the armour, but the Pies will be hoping it was just a blip.

They remain the hot fancies at 3.50 to go on and win the grand final, and they will be keen to keep the momentum going against Brisbane.

The Pies will also be out for revenge after losing by 33 points at the Gabba back in April, and home advantage should help.

Brisbane have won the last three games between the two sides, but none of them have been played in Melbourne.

Collingwood slipped up at home to Carlton a few weeks back, but their other three defeats this season have been as the away side.

Midfielder Nick Daicos will again be key as he averages just over 31 disposals a game so far this season. He can be backed at 3.00 to produce 30+ on Friday night.

Lions continue to roar

Brisbane Lions are starting to peak for finals after winning their last two games against Adelaide Crows and Fremantle.

There was not much in either game however. They beat the Crows by six points, while just three points separated them and the Dockers.

Both Brisbane and Collingwood have been involved in a number of tight games this season, and this one could also go to the wire.

The last time Brisbane were in Melbourne was 14th July when they lost a 105-104 thriller against the Demons.

Brisbane and Collingwood can both be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points and the game really could go either way.

Charlie Cameron will be a huge threat for the Lions after booting 47 goals so far this campaign.

The forward can be backed at 9.50 to boot the first of the game, the same price as teammate and fellow goalsneak Joe Daniher.
