AFL: Pies and Port looking to respond

Ladder-leaders Collingwood and second-placed Port Adelaide are both in action on Saturday and need a victory to get back to winning ways.

There are five games to look forward to in the AFL this week and there is something riding on each one of them as the regular season draws to a close.

The battle to make the top eight and play finals is hotting up, while the make-up of the top four also has to be decided over the remaining games.

It is a crucial time of the season and the games on Saturday do not get much bigger.

Geelong and Port Adelaide have both hit a bad run of form at just the wrong time.

Reigning premiers Geelong have work to do to make the top eight and have lost the last two, while Port Adelaide have lost three on the spin.

Geelong have won two of the last three games between the two sides, but it was Port who came out on top 110-72 back in June of this year.

The Cats have been hit by the news that Tom Hawkins, who has 47 goals this season, will miss out through injury.

They still have Jeremy Cameron though who is priced at 7.00 to boot the first of the game.

Essendon simply must win

Essendon are four points away from the top eight and nothing other than a heavy win over the struggling Eagles will do.

They are on a shocking run of form however, when winning just one game in the last five to slide down the ladder.

West Coast on the other hand picked up just their second win of the season when beating fellow strugglers North Melbourne by five points last week.

The Bombers will still be out to win big and are priced at 3.25 to win by 73+ points.

Whoever wins in this one will keep alive their finals hopes, while the loser could probably kiss them goodbye.

Both teams also head into the game on the back of morale-boosting derby wins last weekend.

Adelaide beat Port 112-65, while the Gold Coast beat Brisbane Lions by 41 points to keep their top-eight hopes alive.

The Crows will be hoping home advantage can help them home and they are priced at 6.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Pies to hit back after Carlton loss

Collingwood suffered a rare defeat against arch-rivals Carlton last weekend and will be desperate to bounce back against the Hawks.

They should not beat themselves up too much, however, as they still sit eight points clear of Port Adelaide at the top of the ladder.

Hawthorn have won just one game in the last five and were on the receiving end of a 29-point home loss against St Kilda last week.

Collingwood have been involved in a number of close games this season and are 7.50 to also edge this one by 1-12 points.

Swans in need of derby success

The derby clash between these two sides is huge this weekend as GWS are sitting pretty in a finals spot, while the Swans are just two points outside of it.

Both are in great form with GWS winning five on the bounce, while the Swans have won the last three.

Something will have to give here and we could be in for a classic as two teams at the top of their game go head-to-head.

Back in April this year, we had just that as the Giants edged out the Swans 107-106 at the SCG and something similar cannot be ruled out.

Toby Greene could be key for the home side and is priced at 6.50 to kick the first goal of the game.
