AFL: Pies go cold at the wrong moment

Collingwood will be keen to snap a two-game losing streak and get their premiership push back on track against Geelong on Friday night.

The Pies have been the standout team in the AFL this season, but there appear to be chinks in their armour following back-to-back defeats in recent weeks.

Now is not the time to hit a sticky patch and the ladder-leaders will be out to bounce back against a Geelong side that also need the win.

The Cats may have won the 2022 AFL grand final, but there is a chance they could miss out on finals this season unless they finish strongly.

There are three games of the regular season remaining before finals begin so the stakes could not be much higher for both of these sides.

It is all set up for an entertaining game under the lights at a packed MCG - Friday night football at its best.

Pies need to bounce back

Collingwood could be forgiven for slipping to just their third loss of the season against an in-form Carlton side, but the defeat to struggling Hawthorn may have set alarm bells ringing.

The Pies had been on a hot streak up until that point and they will be desperate to bounce back with the business end of the season approaching.

Now is not the time to lose that winning feeling and the game against the Cats is a huge one.

Thankfully for Collingwood, the teams below, mainly Port Adelaide, have also been slipping up, and they remain eight points clear at the top of the ladder.

The minor premiership is almost in the bag and they are priced at 3.50 to go on and win the grand final.

Geelong did just that in 2022, scooping the double, but are 15.00 to defend their crown by winning the 2023 grand final.

The two teams did meet in March this year, with Collingwood winning by 22 points at the MCG, and they can be backed at 6.00 to win by 13-24 again, but this time as the home side.

Cameron the danger for Cats

Geelong do have a good record against the Pies, however, and won the previous two meetings on their way to grand final glory last season.

The Cats had suffered back-to-back defeats against Brisbane and Fremantle, but showed glimpses of what they can do when beating Port Adelaide by 12 points last weekend.

That victory should give Chris Scott’s side a confidence boost heading into the Collingwood clash.

Jeremy Cameron booted a couple of goals in that win and is priced at 7.00 to grab the first of the game on Friday night.

Geelong sit just two points outside of the eight, so the next three games are huge and they are in for a big uphill battle as St Kilda and Western Bulldogs are also on the horizon.

Going into this weekend the Bulldogs sit in sixth, with St Kilda in seventh. Geelong can be backed at 1.75 to get the job done and play finals.
