AFL: Collingwood out to extend lead

Saturday is all set up to be another big day in the AFL, with both Collingwood and Port Adelaide in action.

The Pies and Power continue to battle it out at the top of the ladder and it looks to be a two-horse race for the minor premiership with the weeks ticking away quickly.

Collingwood should get the job done against Fremantle, but Port face a potential banana skin when they take on an improved Carlton side.

It is a bumper day of action with five games on the agenda and there is also a place in the top eight to battle for.

Collingwood continue to fly high at the top of the ladder and bounced back from just their second defeat of the season, to win the last three.

It has included impressive wins away at Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast Suns and now they are back on home soil at the MCG.

Fremantle on the other hand are going through a shocking run at just the wrong time. The men from the west have won just one game in the last five.

Their top eight hopes are dangling by a thread but they have shown on a number of occasions they can win at the MCG.

They beat Melbourne there earlier in the season and also beat Collingwood back in the 2021 campaign.

Fremantle can be backed at 12.00 to cause an upset and win by 1-12 points.

Gold Coast head into the game on the back of a tough week that has seen them part company with coach Stuart Dew.

They sit 14th on the ladder after just one win in the last four games and interim coach Steven King will be desperate to get a response from his players.

St Kilda remain in sixth spot after also winning just one game in the past four games and they need to bounce back following a 19-point loss against Melbourne last game.

They have won the last three games against the Suns.

Port Adelaide are bang in form after overcoming some tough opposition in the last five games, including Essendon and Geelong.

They arrived in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago to beat the Bombers by four points in a thrilling encounter and would take the same again.

The Power are priced at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points, but it will not be easy against a Carlton side that have finally found some form and have won three on the bounce.

Eighth takes on fifth in another game that has the potential to be a thriller. Just two points separate these two as the battle to play finals hots up.

Geelong have lost just one in the last five and that was against Port Adelaide. They have also beaten the Bombers in each of the last three meetings.

Essendon are having a good season though and returned to winning ways with an impressive home win over Adelaide Crows last week. Geelong forward Tom Hawkins has booted 40 goals this season and is priced at 8.00 to get the first on Saturday.

Adelaide are in ninth, GWS in 10th, so it goes without saying this game is huge for both sides and their top-eight hopes.

GWS are in great form having won four on the bounce, including a win against Melbourne at the MCG. Therefore a trip to Adelaide will hold no fear.

The Crows will still fancy their chances at the Adelaide Oval, which is something of a fortress for them. However, the Giants have won their last two visits there.
